Job Description : Education RequiredAn associate degree or another postsecondary award in graphic arts, communications or design can help desktop publishers acquire the training the need to enter the field. Stand-alone desktop publishing courses that show students how to import copy and format digital pages can also be found at community, technical or trade colleges. Completion of a 4-year degree program, such as one that might lead to a Bachelor of Fine Arts, is the usual requirement for aspiring graphic designers. Experience with computer graphics and page layout software is important, and job-seekers should be ready with a professional portfolio of high-quality work.Skills RequiredGood communications skills are necessary for negotiating with clients and printers. A typesetter will also need to have a sharp eye and be attentive to detail.
