Job Description : About the Position:
Our Chicago-based animal hospital is seeking a highly motivated, organized, and caring Veterinary Assistant/Receptionist to enhance our team. You’ll play an important role in assisting Veterinarians, bringing comfort to our furry patients, and ensuring the facility is running smoothly.
Requirements:
Experience as a Veterinary Assistant or similar position working with animals
Experience in an administrative role is a plus
High school diploma or equivalent; a certificate from a Veterinary Assistant program is a plus
Knowledge of and ability to do routine tasks such as feeding or bathing animals
Patient and caring personality
Comfortable being around animals (cats, dogs, birds, reptiles, etc.)
Organized
Excellent communication skills
Ability to follow instructions
Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (e.g. lift up to 40 lbs)
Current or former pet ownership is an advantage
Responsibilities include:
Feed, groom, and weigh animals
Restrain animals during examinations or vaccinations
Administer medications prescribed by Veterinarians
Assist Veterinarians in examinations, surgery, and euthanasia
Communicate with clients
Handle administrative duties such as scheduling appointments or calling patients into the examination room by priority
Advise pet owners on nutrition and healthcare
Keep accurate records and logs
Clean cages and bathe animals
Sterilize equipment and clean examination tables and rooms
Soothe upset or frightened animals
Assist in emergency situations
