Job Description : Cherry Republic – Vice President of Climate & Community ImpactWith a desire to amplify and formalize our longtime environmental and community-focused philanthropic efforts, Cherry Republic of Glen Arbor, MI, is seeking a senior level professional to join its leadership team. The Vice President of Climate and Community Impact will oversee relationships with and initiatives pertaining to government, philanthropy, advocacy, sustainability, business engagement, and social change networks. He or she will also manage the company’s charitable giving efforts.Essential ResponsibilitiesRepresent Cherry Republic’s staff, our region, tourism, agriculture and business communities in state and national politics.Push for climate action, for environmental action, speak for the woods and wilds of northern Michigan and for our grandchildren.Proactively manage our charitable giving — approximately half a million dollars per year.Create a Cherry Republic Foundation that can accept donations, grant funding, and sustain our philanthropic passion far into the future.Act as the contact person with government and community contacts in developing new business developments.Expand and manage our solar grants to farmers and schools. Start PPA solar developments for schools, enhance our engagement with farms and farmers, and publicize each new solar installation we invest in.Develop venues and outlets to encourage the business community to join Cherry Republic in raising money for good, impactful causes. Translate and demonstrate the good for Michigan, as well as the great business partnerships and collaborations.Be a clear voice and advocate of our communities to our politicians and media.Engage with the work to Stop Line 5, and find other opportunities to fight for climate action initiatives.Be a key leader in environmental business groups, such as co-chair of the Great Lakes Business Network.Create a community investment fund with area businesses and institutions.Obtain B Corp certification for Cherry Republic and continue to be a model of green business in Michigan.Concisely define, communicate and publicly share the company’s philanthropic, environmental, and community goals and values on the local, state, and national levels.Assist rural companies and their communities to create a shared vision that we advocate statewide and nationally.Organize ways for our customers to engage in this movement.Creatively and strategically source the giving power of our communities, which includes our awesome customers, to join us in raising money and donating to important causes.Engage Cherry Republic business departments/staff to be involved by starting a Run Green Committee (with rotating members).Work cooperatively with other departments within the company — including Marketing and Sales — to help drive initiatives.Meet, vet, and endorse candidates who support environmental issues, climate health, agriculture and rural communities at the municipal, county, state, and national levels.Support more efforts for wind and solar in our community, on company property, and at our employees’ homes by raising and leveraging greener philanthropic and investment dollars, as well as private or public grants.Necessary Skills: Exceptional influencing, listening and communications skills to build relationships with strategic partners and stakeholders.Critical and strategic thinking skills.Leadership experience with the ability to inspire and be passionate about making an impact in the state of Michigan.Strong track record of driving community impact results across an organization and across communities.Ability to demonstrate an outstanding record of positive and influential engagement with a variety of business stakeholders and a strong grasp of sustainability innovation and best practices.A solid ability to navigate political and other advocacy groups, as well as work within nonprofit and for-profit sectors to gain the best insights and foster strong relationships.Experience and / or Education: A minimum of 5 years experience in a senior role similar to a Vice President or Executive director required. Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Environmental Science, or related area required.
