Wheeler farm is currently hiring temporary staff, must be 16 years old at time of hire. The positions we regularly hire for are listed below. Perks include flexible hours, and a fun environment. We are looking for motivated, reliable, people-friendly folks to join our team in the following areas:
**Camp Counselors**
Assists in planning, promoting, coordinating, supervising, and evaluating recreation/farm programs for the Wheeler Historic Farm Summer Camps. Ensures safety of participants, facility and program, provides customer service, and maintains equipment.

Develop and maintain cooperative relationship with participants, staff and farm employees.
Assists in delivery of youth farm recreation activities, including farmhand duties, animal handling, maintaining and clean-up.
Prepares crafts & activities.
Provides leadership to youth engaged in program activities.
Follows program procedures to safeguard health, safety, and well-being of participants.
Assists in maintaining and controlling inventory of supplies and equipment.
Enforces rules and regulations of facility, programs, activities, and events.
May be required to lift up to 50lbs.

The Wheeler Historic Farm Summer Camp requires Camp counselors to be active participants in all activities. Counselors must be able to play, demonstrate and participate. Our camp is 99% outdoors in all weather conditions including heat, rain, mud and dust. Hiking, climbing, playing are all part of the day. Training on animals and the farm will be required including: first aid, CPR, swift water, farm animal 101, large animal interactions and more. Wheeler Historic Farm will host over 700 summer camp participants over the course of a season. This position requires the camp counselor to be able to adapt to new and ever changing circumstances on a day to day basis. Shifts will be from 8:30AM – 1:30PM, additional hours available to help in other areas of the farm.

Summer camp Dates: June 6th – August 12th
Training begins in May.

**Farmers & Wagon/Cow Train drivers**
Performs a wide variety of farming and physical maintenance duties to provide a safe and clean working farm environment.

Participates in the daily cleaning, maintenance and upkeep of the Farm
Feeds and waters livestock.
Inspects, maintains, cleans, and repairs equipment, machinery, buildings, pens, yards, and fences.
Plants, cultivates, weeds and harvest crops and gardens.
Operates farm and landscape equipment.
Cleans stalls, pens, and equipment using appropriate cleaners, equipment, and tools.
Drives trucks, tractors, and other equipment.
Performs animal care, grooming, and maintenance as directed by the farmer.
Milks cows and goats by hand, afternoon farmer will work with public at milking demonstration.
Maintains security of farmland, buildings, and animals.
Moves equipment, poultry, or livestock from one location to another manually or using trucks or carts.
Farmers are also trained to drive the wagons and cow train
Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

This is not a full time position. Shifts may vary. Usual shift is 4 to 6 hours per day, 3-5 days per week, including weekends.
Shifts: 6AM – 12PM, 8am – 2pm, 12PM – 6PM, 2PM – 8PM.
Morning availability given preference. Flexibility preferred.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
This position works almost entirely outdoors, in all weather conditions.
Hours per week may vary depending on seasons.

optional: farmers (if interested) can be trained to give the blacksmith demonstration as part of the school tours, tours are generally scheduled between the hours of 9am and 2pm Monday – Friday.

**Cashiers**

Operates cash register, handles money, reconcile end of shift sales.
Ensures customers receive outstanding service. Greets visitors, provides directions and other pertinent information.
Maintains clean and orderly appearance of store. Keeps merchandise organized and stocked at all times.
Verifies delivery slips. Stocks and stores new inventory.
Provides immediate notification to supervisory staff of mechanical problems, personnel issues, customer concerns and safety hazards.
Follow procedures to safeguard health, safety, and well-being of participants
Enforces rules and regulations of facility, programs, activities, and events.
SNAP cashier at Farmer’s Market Sundays May-Oct for EBT transactions.

**Tour Guides**
Provides tours of Wheeler Farm to individuals and groups. Relays historical and animal facts and provides information for visitors in an entertaining and informative way. Provides customer service to patrons as a cashier and guide.

Ensures customers receive outstanding service. Greets visitors, provides directions and other pertinent information.
Provides immediate notification to supervisory staff of mechanical problems, personnel issues, customer concerns and safety hazards.
Leads tours of Wheeler Farm and describes point of interest to group members, respond to questions.
Follow procedures to safeguard health, safety, and well-being of participants
Enforces rules and regulations of facility, programs, activities, and events.
Provides effective customer service in dealing with patrons, staff, and farm employees.

Wheeler Historic Farm will host over 10,000 school children over the course of a season. We rely heavily on our tour guides to be outstanding in all aspects of executing their duties. We expect our guides to be friendly, easy-going, happy, attentive, flexible, punctual and responsible. This position requires the tour guide to be able to adapt to new and ever changing circumstance on a day to day basis. Tours are scheduled daily (Monday – Friday from 9am-2pm). Shifts will vary depending on registrations. If you are a good fit, we are flexible and can work with your schedule.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be at least 16 years of age at the time of hire.
Successful completion of a criminal background check.
Other minimum qualifications may be required depending on the exact position under these titles.
Educational background or experience in recreation or similar field preferred.

TEMPORARY POSITIONS:
An “At Will”, FLSA non-exempt employee who is not eligible for County benefits and who must work an average of 29 hours or less per week or an average of 129 hours or less per month.

Are not eligible for County benefits except as otherwise provided for by policy.
Are not considered merit employees.
Are “at will” employees who may be terminated for any reason, without notice, and without a pre-termination hearing.

Requirements:

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Position requires the ability to walk extensive distances, kneel, bend, and stand for long periods of time, climb stairs while transporting medical equipment, twisting and lifting heavy equipment, lift backboards and transport patients up or down stairs. Must have weeknight and weekend availability. All certifications/licenses must be current.
