Job Description : Duties
As a Wildlife Refuge Specialist your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

Administer and manage a variety of complex natural resource programs in a refuge management situation.
Administer permit uses of federal or state owned lands or trust resources in accordance with requirements of natural resource laws.
Coordinate biological management studies and activities with co-workers, federal, state and local agencies, conservation organizations, the public, landowners and tribal governments.
Administer an annual budget to accomplish work goals consistent with established policies and guidelines.
Assist in directing, planning and administration of the public use program including off-refuge programs, interpretive and educational programs, auto and foot tour routes, hunting, fishing, wildlife observation and other recreational activities.

Basic Requirement:
A. I have completed a 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor’s or higher degree with major in zoology, wildlife management, or an appropriate field of biology that included at least 9 semester hours in zoology; 6 semester hours in such wildlife courses as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, or wildlife management; 3 semester hours in botany, and 3 semester hours in conservation biology.

B. I have completed courses in an accredited college or university equivalent to a major in zoology, wildlife management, or appropriate field of biology that included at least 9 semester hours in zoology; 6 semester hours in such wildlife courses as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, or wildlife management; 3 semester hours in botany, and 3 semester hours in conservation biology PLUS appropriate experience and/or additional education comparable to the completion of a 4-year course of study. NOTE: Your resume must contain sufficient detail of this level of experience.

Minimum Qualification [GS-11]
A. I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience may include planning, and management activities related to land management (e.g., public use, accessibility, endangered species, cultural resources, etc.) interacting with diverse individuals and groups to solve natural resource or land management problems and promote cooperation; participate in development of annual work plans, long-range plans, and associated budgeting.

B. I have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education in zoology, wildlife management, or an appropriate field of biology. Graduate level education must demonstrate the competencies necessary to do the work of the position.

C. I possess a combination of experience as described above and graduate education as described above which, when combined, is equivalent to 100% of the qualification requirements. Only education beyond the 2nd year may be used to meet this standard. NOTE: Your resume must contain sufficient detail describing this level of experience.

Skilled in detailed observation of natural and other phenomena pertinent to natural resource management sufficient to draw sound conclusions based on observations and prepare reports for technical and administrative use.
Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of assets and equipment to ensure accountability and functionality.
Skill to provide guidance and training to lower-graded employees and to oversee volunteer work.
