Job Description : Employment Announcement: 911 Emergency Dispatcher

The Cy-Fair Fire Department is accepting applications for the position of 911 emergency dispatcher.

Dispatchers are responsible for and expected to receive and prioritize 911 and non-emergency telephone calls from the public and department. Process information using a computer-aided-dispatch (CAD) system. Dispatch appropriate emergency service agencies such as fire and emergency medical units. Monitor public safety units in the field. Retrieve and enter computer data for emergency response personnel. This general description reflects the concept and intent of this position and should not be construed as a detailed statement of all the work requirements that may be inherent to this position.
4.01 Essential Job Functions – Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with Department Standard Operating Guidelines, including Bulletins, Memos, Safety guidelines, Personnel Handbook and Chief’s Orders.
A. Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
1. Must respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for assistance and information 2. Must provide dispatch and communication support services for fire, EMS, and related services 3. Using computer systems and dispatching equipment to communicate and coordinate activity with EMS and fire units, as well as with other agencies. 4. Operate a multi-frequency radio and computer-aided dispatch system (CAD) 5. Monitor radios and process requests from on scene commanders and other personnel. 6. Continuously monitor tactical channel incidents to process requests from on scene commanders or other personnel. 7. Monitor apparatus status for timely response and availability for response. 8. Maintaining concise records of all dispatching activities, including unit assignments 9. Receive, screen and prioritize emergency and non-emergency telephone calls for service from the public 10. Dispatching peripheral assistance, including law enforcement, utility companies, and county agencies. 11. Perform general dispatch duties, including: a. Communicate information to other dispatchers (on shift and oncoming shift) and field staff as necessary, such as but not limited to; i. Hospital Diversion status ii. Apparatus in/out of service, including manned resources iii. Problems with Communications equipment or supplies iv. Problems with radio equipment v. Accidents or Injuries vi. Other Pertinent information to assist future shifts, field staff, or command staff b. Perform daily duties to maintain Communications center, such as but not limited to; i. Empty trash ii. Vacuum iii. Dust iv. Clean work stations v. Clean break room and kitchen. 12. Sleeping will NOT be permitted while on duty as a dispatcher. 13. Be responsible for maintaining a professional work environment in the Communications Center. This includes restriction of unnecessary personnel from the Communications Center. 14. Maintain Communications equipment and supplies 15. Assist in preparing records and reports 16. Maintain excellent working relationships with employees, volunteers, outside agencies. 17. Complete mandated Greater Harris County 911 training 18. Maintain certifications and training as required by Department and IAED. 19. Knowledge of the geography of all agencies served including the location of streets, important structures and landmarks 23. Have knowledge of basic computer data entry A. Education/Degrees: 1. Possession of a high school diploma or an appropriate equivalent B. Certifications/Licenses: 1. Possession of a valid Texas Driver’s license 2. Possession of EMD and EFD Certification through the International Academy of Emergency Dispatch (IAED), or the ability to obtain during probationary period. 3. NIMS 100, 200, 700,800, or the ability to obtain during probationary period.

Compensation: $21.50/hr. during training period
$24.50/hr. after training period completion + .20 per year for longevity

Schedule: Avg. 42 hours per week; days, nights, weekends, holidays required

TCDRS 7% employee contribution

14% employer contribution

457B Voluntary retirement account, Employer will match up to 3%

Insurance:
Medical benefits are offered thru Blue Cross Blue Shield.

PPO Plan: The department covers 80% of the employee premium and 60% for family.
There is an optional Gap policy that you can include with the PPO plan.

PPO HSA $5,000: The department covers 100% of the employee premium and 90% for family.
The department makes a quarterly contribution towards the HSA account.
Dental, Vision, and additional Life Insurance are offered.
The Department covers 90% of the employee premium and 70% for family for dental and vision.
The Department pays 100% of the premiums for short-term and long-term disability.
Additional Life insurance is available with 100% being paid by the employee.
Supplemental Insurance:
The Department partners with Aflac for supplemental insurance. This is paid 100% by the employee thru bi-weekly payroll deductions
