Job Description : SUMMARY
The Houston/Harris/Fort Bend/ Montgomery County Continuum of Care (CoC) was recently awarded a grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to prevent and end youth homelessness for youth under age 25. Coalition for the Homeless is seeking an Associate Youth Program to perform all duties necessary to ensure the preparation and approval of a Coordinated Community Plan (CCP) to Prevent and End Youth Homelessness in our region and to resubmit the document as needed for the HUD Youth Homelessness Demonstration Project (YHDP) as the plan is implemented.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assistance CFTH, The Way Home membership, community partners, and youth with lived experience in the development the YHDP CCP that will be submitted to HUD.
2. Work assigned HUD Technical Assistance providers to ensure the proper information is gathered and submitted.
3. Coordinate the execution of the HUD YHDP CCP and assist in writing the HUD HYDP project submission.
4. Work closely with the Youth Program Manager, Strategic Planning Director, and the VP of Strategic Planning to administer and manage all functions pertaining to the HUD funded YHDP, including:
a. Assisting with developing and implementing the plan recommendations and projects
b. Interfacing with federal agencies and national partners, technical assistance teams and other YHDP grantees
c. Monitoring Continuous Quality Improvement and performance outcomes
d. Establishing a Continuum of Care (CoC) Youth Advisory Board (YAB)
e. Researching best practices for ending youth homelessness
f. Stay apprised of federal regulations and legislative changes relating to youth homelessness and their impact on the local funding processes, and disseminate information to partners
g. Advocate for youth on a systems level and work with stakeholders to establish thorough partnerships
h. Participate in department meetings, full staff meetings, and all YHDP meetings
i. Assist Youth Program Manager, Strategic Planning Director, and the VP as needed
5. Focuses on completing daily, weekly, monthly assignments
6. High level complexity of work
7. High level project management assignments, typically in project management leader role
8. Build broad knowledge of overall programs or systems within the organization and our field of work
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree + 2 years’ experience in discipline OR associate’s degree + 4 years of experience in discipline
Highly skilled within a specific field or area of work
Interpersonal skills and flexibility within a small office
Strong professional verbal and written communication skills
Self-motivated and self-directed
Results-oriented
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Ability to work efficiently while paying close attention to detail
2. Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines
3. Ability to communicate effectively, both in speaking and writing, with persons within and outside of the agency
4. Experience leading and participating in collaborative groups Ability to work independently while maintaining willingness to accept supervision
5. Ability to maintain a positive attitude
6. Experience working with youth and/or youth-related initiatives preferred
7. People with lived experience of homelessness encouraged to apply
