* * * This position will require you to walk and work around inmates of the HCSO Jail * * *
Under general supervision of the Disciplinary & Grievance Sergeant, the incumbent will; maintain filing systems, both printed and electronic, answer telephones, type and distribute reports and perform other assignments and duties as required and/or necessary. The incumbent will serve as a representative to the Division displaying courtesy, tact, consideration, teamwork, and professionalism in all interactions with other members of the HCSO, other County constituents, and the general public
Duties and Responsibilities: (List of specific duties/responsibilities in order of importance)
Maintain filing systems of memoranda, letters, documents, and materials
Answer telephones, take a message, provide information, and refer inquiries to appropriate locations
Type and distribute reports, correspondence, and data when needed
Comply with civil service, departmental, bureau, and division rules, regulations, and standard operating procedures
Perform other assignments and duties as required and/or necessary

Requirements
NOTE:

High School Diploma or G.E.D.
A minimum of one (1) year of paid work experience in an office environment performing clerical duties
Pass pre-employment HCSO Clerical Skills Test with a minimum overall score of 75% and score a typing speed of 35 W.P.M with 85% accuracy
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Exhibit a high level of confidentiality
Proficient in the use of standard software programs such as MS Office Word, Excel, and Outlook
Strong verbal and written communication skills; high level of organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to:
Process a high volume of documents accurately
Multi-task and prioritize tasks to meet established deadlines and function under intense time pressure and a stressful work environment
Interact with the public and co-workers in a professional, calm, and composed manner
Work overtime and/or varying hours as deemed necessary
Testing: Qualified candidates will receive an e-mail request with instructions to take the HCSO Clerical Skills test
Preferences
Harris County Personnel Procedures, Department manual, STARS, Blue Team, PEWS, and SIRS
FMLA, LOA, Transitional Duty, and Workers Comp
Prepare required reports and statistical data in an accurate timely manner
Create, maintain and update critical and confidential files in an organized manner
Bi-lingual

Hours:
40 hours per week – Various shifts based on position offered
Possibly including Weekends and Holidays

Preference will be given to current Harris County Sheriff’s Office employees that are deemed qualified
