YOUR POSITION WITH TNC

The Climate Program Associate (CPA) is a termed 1-year position, with the potential to be extended. The CPA is a key member of a new team addressing key challenges and benefiting people and nature in the face of a changing climate. A member of The Nature Conservancy’s Conservation team in Arizona, the CPA serves as a liaison to the Arizona Thrives Alliance and supports the development of partnerships, strategies, and policies to mitigate climate change. The Climate Program Associate (CPA) is a termed 1-year position, with the potential to be extended. A member of The Nature Conservancy’s Conservation team in Arizona, the CPA serves as a liaison to the Arizona Thrives Alliance and supports the development of partnerships, strategies, and policies to mitigate climate change.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Climate Program Associate (CPA) provides technical leadership and support to the Arizona Chapter of the Nature Conservancy and plans and supports the Arizona Thrives Alliance (www.azthrives.org), a program of The Nature Conservancy. The CPA fosters collaboration and learning among the Arizona Thrives community and supplies the climate team with assessments and technical information relevant to the program goals. The CPA develops and implements a variety of strategies to secure public and private support for climate mitigation and adaption priorities. The CPA coordinates community partners and supporters, coordinates multiple projects, and sets deadlines and manages completion of complex projects.

Support the Arizona Thrives Alliance (50%)

Coordinate the Arizona Thrives Alliance Team and Leadership Council’s meetings, agendas, meeting notes, presentations, events, and support the program’s overall project management.

Manage Arizona Thrives newsletter, communications, social media channels, web content and outreach materials in collaboration with the chapter marketing team.

Support facilitation and design of Arizona Thrives’ communities of practice to ensure effective integration of multiple perspectives and shared understanding.

Support partnerships with business, academia, economic development entities, professional and trade associations, and local, state, and federal agencies.
Handle confidential information.

Climate Mitigation Policy Research and Support (30%)

Research policy solutions, including interview-based and experiential research, as well as traditional policy research.

Draft policy documents, white papers, fact sheets, and economic analysis for review, editing and discussion by internal, cross-departmental teams and external partners.

Understand and distribute information to internal team members related to funding key climate priorities, such as the recent Federal Infrastructure and Jobs bill.

Program Support (20%)

Develop and manage contracts to support the program.

Set agendas, manage invitations, and facilitate meetings or other events in support of the climate program.

Track and report-out project status, progress, and metrics as needed.

Ensure program compliance with internal policies and external requirements.

Other duties as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE

The Climate Program Associate (CPA) is a junior position that will manage projects, collaboration with internal and external teams, and may supervise volunteers. The CPA performs tasks with minimal supervision and makes independent decisions based on analysis, experience and context.
Within the scope of the position, the CPA will:

Work with partners and the team to advance program strategies and the work of the Arizona Thrives Alliance and Leadership Council.
Research, develop, and work with partners to create content for Arizona Thrives communications, including newsletter and social media materials.
Develop written communications such as reports, blogs, stories, and presentations for the climate team.
Research climate mitigation and adaption policy issues including traditional and interview-based research.
Develop surveys and collect feedback from partners and stakeholder engaged in the Arizona Thrives Alliance.
Work closely with partners and other relationship-managers to ensure relationships are thoughtfully managed and maintained.

Work Environment and Schedule:

This position is based in the Phoenix office. Hybrid work arrangement will be considered.
Position may require occasional travel to meetings, project sites, and events (local; throughout Arizona; U.S.).
May require working extended and/or varied work hours, including on weekends.
Ability to lift, pull, push up to 25#s.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree and 3 years’ related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Relationship building experience to work closely with a variety of partners, i.e., media, government officials, internal scientists.
Experience with communication via written, spoken and graphical means in English.
Experience writing and editing promotional and informational materials.
Experience completing tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).
Experience using common software applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and web browsers for research, etc.
Experience managing staff or volunteers.
Valid driver’s license.
Youth certification (30 days after hired; annually thereafter).

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Multi-lingual skills and experience with multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience
Ability to communicate clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English.
Experience, coursework, or other training in sustainability, marketing and communications, government relations, or business.
Experience presenting to and communicating with internal and diverse external audiences.
Familiarity with ASANA (or similar) project management software, Boardable (or similar) board management software, Survey Monkey, and Mail Chimp.
Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time, keeping teams and items on-task, on-time, and on-budget
Experience facilitating informational sessions, increasing internal knowledge and capacity, and identifying key stakeholders.
Self-starting, independent worker who can thrive in a decentralized organization with minimal oversight.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Experience working with partners or government agencies.
