Job Description : Summary
The Communications Associate position offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment, interacting daily with local and national media. The associate will work with some of the top medical experts and scientists in the country to secure media placements. The Communications Associate will be a member of the media team and will develop communications plans, including internal and external communications, for assigned departments. The ideal candidate enjoys working in a team environment and developing creative communications solutions.
After initial training, the Communications Associate will have the opportunity to work from home one day a week. This position is located in the Texas Medical Center in Houston, TX.
Job Duties
Writes news releases, media advisories, news briefs and newsletter copy.
Handles communications responsibilities for several departments and programs at the College, keeping up with news that should be distributed through external and internal communications.
Handles calls from local, national and international media received for faculty in those departments and escorts media on campus.
Works on a team that determines appropriate communications to promote the College, its faculty and programs.
Develops “pitches” for news reporters.
Interviews faculty for news releases on health and research related topics.
Develops and carries out communications plans for promoting College news.
Monitors media coverage and drafts monthly reports for faculty and administration needs.
Develops content for the College’s blog, internal newsletter and other internal communications.
Assists in coordination and promotion of special events, lectures and photo and video projects.
Works with media team counterparts at other TMC institutions.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree.
Two years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Has an interest in science writing.
