DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and under the general work direction of the Assistant Director of VCSA Communications, the Communications Coordinator serves as a point of contact for Student Affairs communications’ creative and visual matters, responsible for articulating the Student Affairs vision, mission and goals through look, feel and content for diverse audiences and campus partners. The incumbent maintains an in-depth understanding of a diverse audience and communication strategies that will best serve students and the University.
The incumbent is responsible for various VC Student Affairs communications programs which include-but are not limited to-written, visual, digital, and electronic communications.
The incumbent:

Collaborates with their supervisor to determine the best communication methodologies in which to reach student audiences on important campus initiatives led by Student Affairs, implements these methodologies, and assesses their effectiveness;
Manages the VC Student Affairs and affiliated web pages, including updating content, ensuring accuracy and timeliness, uploading content, images, and multimedia elements including photos and videos;
Creates and manages social media channels and posts regularly to keep audience informed of Student Affairs activities and relevant content from partners university-wide;
Schedules and coordinates the timely production of print and electronic documents and promotional items, conferring with graphic designers and printers or other vendors regarding production specifications and timelines.

This position has a dotted reporting line to University Communications and Public Affairs to ensure accuracy with university messaging, protocols for managing external media, and brand guideline adherence.

QUALIFICATIONS

Working knowledge of concepts and principles of news, media communications and media relations. Minimum of three (3) years work experience creating and writing content for social media pieces. Working experience with the hands-on skills related to posting multimedia content, video, images, and graphics on social networking platforms while tailoring messages to specific audiences, ideally for a university program or educational product.
Experience working with various software programs including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Outlook, Adobe Creative Cloud, Internet browsers, web CMS and video editing programs, and social media software/monitoring services; Demonstrated innovation, creativity and a track record of keeping current with new technologies and new approaches.
Proven ability and working experience to write copy and edit for accuracy and style. Working knowledge of proper English grammar, spelling, punctuation, sentence construction and effective journalistic style. Ability to write for executive leadership. Ability to write for multiple audiences, particularly student audiences.
Work experience creating social media strategies to market to targeted audiences. Ability to provide sound, professional new media communications strategy in a campus environment.
Experience monitoring sources to repurpose/adapt for social media. Experience summarizing news articles and reports for use on social media. Ability to think creatively to identify topics for use on various social media platforms; experience altering content based on social media platform.
Ability to quantify effectiveness of social media strategies; ability to evaluate and advise on effectiveness of social media strategies. Knowledge of the practices for effecting marketing communications and branding promotions to support branding messages.
Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships with other campus social media network administrators and communications colleagues.
Experience with creating quality, compelling social media content to help generate visibility for Student Affairs reputation, initiatives and events.
Strong communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively one-on-one or in group settings, taking into account differences in social, cultural, professional, and educational backgrounds.
Demonstrated excellence in news judgment and strong demonstrated interviewing skills.
