DESCRIPTION
Long-term temporary opportunity available with our Office for the Prevention of Harassment & Discrimination (OPHD). OPHD is responsible for ensuring the University provides an environment for students, faculty, and staff that is free from discrimination and harassment on the basis of protected categories. OPHD’s mission is to educate the entire UC San Diego community about these issues and to assist with prevention efforts, and prompt and effective resolution of all complaints. OPHD provides analysis and guidance in all areas pertaining to institutional compliance with federal and state laws, and University of California nondiscrimination policies. Reporting directly to the Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer, OPHD conducts civil rights investigations and guides senior campus leadership in all Vice Chancellor areas.
The Complaint Resolution Officer (CRO) reports to the Title IX Officer/ Director of OPHD. Under general direction, the CRO assumes major responsibility for responding to complaints of harassment and discrimination, exercising independent judgment in the intake, informal resolution, and formal investigation of complaints and in establishing strategies for the resolution of identified problems. The CRO independently provides impartial consultation, conflict resolution, and problem solving in response to complaints and inquiries received from members of the campus community and affiliates, including faculty, staff, students, parents, and UCSD Healthcare employees.
The CRO makes recommendations to the Director, or, where appropriate, directly to campus administrators or other individuals, and may recommend changes to procedure to insure institutional equity and fairness. The Complaint Resolution Officer also trains management and supervisory personnel regarding the interpretation of University nondiscrimination policies and the University’s obligations under those policies. In addition, the CRO develops, implements, coordinates and evaluates education programs regarding discrimination issues for the entire campus community, including programs satisfying the state-mandated sexual harassment prevention training for supervisors.

Anticipated Duration: One (1) year

Compensation: $43.10 – $55.10 /hour, including paid holidays and vacation/sick leave. Full-medical insurance also available.

Location: this position will have a hybrid work schedule (on-site at La Jolla campus and remote) though a fully remote work arrangement is available.

Work schedule: Mon – Fri; 8:00AM – 4:30PM

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Juris Doctor or advanced degree in related area preferred.
Experience conducting investigations, including interviewing, gathering and analyzing evidence, and writing investigation reports. Preferred experience working in a compliance function within an academic setting.
Experience investigating a high caseload of sexual harassment or other equivalently sensitive allegations in an empathetic and confidential manner.
Strong skills and experience in conflict resolution, problem-solving techniques, screening, interviewing, advising and investigation. Strong analytical skills and the ability to assess and negotiate complex, highly sensitive situations.
Ability to present information clearly and concisely, both in writing and verbally. Ability to suggest practical and effective recommendations; strong analytical and research skills to identify internal and external resources.
Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with campus administrators, staff, faculty and students. Ability to assist or consult with administrators, staff and faculty in assessing procedural, policy or ethical concerns in complex matters.
Skill and sensitivity to interact with diverse constituencies of various ethnic, social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds in order to identify, investigate and facilitate problem resolution and to educate members of the University community effectively.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
