Position : Data Abstractor (SUDORS) San Diego
Job Description : The CDC Foundation anticipates hiring several Data Abstractors with SUDORS experience to support the Overdose Data to Action (OD2A) response in states across the country. The purpose of the OD2A project is to gather real-time data on drug overdoses and to use this data to drive prevention actions that ultimately reduce fatal drug overdoses.
The Data Abstractor plays a pivotal role on the team and is primarily responsible for:
Working closely with epidemiologists on the team to identify drug overdose fatalities that meet the State Unintentional Drug Overdose Reporting System (SUDORS) case definition
Contacting specific coroner and medical examiner offices to request reports
Abstracting the appropriate information from the reports into the SUDORS database.
In addition to having strong organizational, attention to detail, communication, and interpersonal skills, successful candidates will also possess:
A Bachelor’s or nursing degree or emergency medical technician/death investigation certificate is required; Master’s degree is preferred (preferably in nursing, public health, or a health-related field)
Proficiency in at least one statistical analysis software program (preferably SAS) is preferred but not required
Proficiency in navigating computer systems; ability to learn new data systems quickly and to comply with data integrity and security to safeguard all personal identifiable information.
