Job Description : Design Assistant – Costumes
The Old Globe seeks qualified applicants for a full time Design Assistant in the Costume department. This position reports to the Costume Director and is responsible for assisting on assigned projects including but not limited to shows, shopping, restocking, and organizing. Work on projects will be in support of costume designers, associate designer, design assistant(s) and costume shop personnel.
Qualified candidates should have a good working knowledge of clothing, both contemporary and historical; be able to interpret and carry out assignments according to someone’s vison, taste and/or instructions; have strong organizational skills and good fabric and color knowledge; have a good understanding of appropriate behavior in a professional theatrical setting with designers, performers, technical and administrative staff; and be able to adapt to a changing work environment quickly and manage competing demands. Successful applicants should be self-motivated, adept at problem-solving and attentive to details and timelines. Candidates should also demonstrate at least 2 to 4 years of progressive work in this field. Flexible hours and overtime is required. Workweek is Tuesday-Saturday and some Sundays depending on project assignments. Strong computer skills in Excel, Word, Photoshop Elements and or Photoshop required. Employee will be required to stand, walk, crouch, and sit for long periods of time; must have excellent vision including the ability to see color differences and see well close and at distance; and be able to lift up to 35 lbs. Must be full vaccinated for COVID-19. Must be able to complete and clear a background screening. Must have a valid driver’s license and excellent driving record. Hourly rate is $21.00. Full time position with benefits including 401(k).
