Valero is looking for a Desktop Support Specialist to p rovide support for enterprise information system infrastructure technology solutions aligned with industry and company standards. Under general supervision, will work in close collaboration with team members, end users, and other IS departments to meet the company’s goals. The primary focus will be support work, but will also involve the design and implementation of projects. Will provide support for remote access software, to include complex needs analysis, configuration, installation, repair activity, moves, and changes for all supported locations. Will work with various disciplines in I/S to develop solutions to problems and test applications and equipment with self-developed test scripts.

Responsibilities
Primary focus is to support assigned information system infrastructure disciplines/components and business users as well as moderately complex enhancements to existing architecture. This includes the use of Valero’s system to track support activities.
Participates in information system infrastructure design and implementation projects as a project manager, lead or individual contributor, as required.
Administers Windows desktop operating systems, Microsoft Office suite and other desktop software applications.
Documents knowledge acquired and technical specifications into a knowledge management system.
Coordinates with customers to define and satisfy application package requirements.
Maintains the acceptable goals for team’s scorecard.
Monitors and reconciles incident tickets assigned to team’s queue daily.
Provides knowledge transfer, coaching, and mentoring to technical staff.
Works on moderately complex tasks for the design, development, maintenance and upgrade of information system infrastructure involving hardware, software, and system applications. This includes, but is not limited to: trouble-shooting, problem-solving, issue resolution, user interaction, training, defining systems scope, gathering requirements, documenting design specifications, research and fact-finding, configuration, testing, reporting, cutover, IS and business user coordination.
Develops effective work relationships within departmental and functional lines at various job levels with business users, IS departments and Valero business partners.
Learns or demonstrates an in-depth understanding of more than one information system infrastructure discipline/component and associated application/hardware integration.
Helps coordinate the adoption of new procedures resulting from software and hardware changes, including the development of system specifications, documentation, training, and communication plans.
Performs analysis on and recommends quality complex solutions to information system infrastructure technology disciplines/components.
Understands and applies the various IT methodologies which include project management, development, service management and system architecture.
May be required to work off-hours and on weekends for projects and/or support.
Some travel may be required.
This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or GED required.
5 years of related experience in information systems to include experience supporting Microsoft Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office suites, desktop and mobile computing support.
Preferred Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) or foreign equivalent degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology or related field preferred.
Experience with Active Directory group policies, scripting languages, Microsoft Systems Center Configuration Manager, and Microsoft Office products preferred.
Citrix and Microsoft certifications preferred.
