Position : Director of Military and Veteran Affairs

Job Description : This is a responsible, supervisory position; Responsible for directing, managing and coordinating complex, collaborative projects or activities that require a high degree of specialized knowledge about partnering with local military installations to assist in the implementation of sustainability efforts to ensure continued viability of the local military bases; Conducts research, provides data, makes recommendations, and drafts requests for proposals (RFPs) and implements solutions to achieve project goals and objectives associated with Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG) and Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA); Supervision of Compatible Use Project (CUP) Planner/GIS Coordinator position; Directs Veteran Services Programs, including development, implementation and expansion of a comprehensive plan for services to veterans; Lead and supervise Veteran Services Programs staff, and direct the fiscal, operational and planning activities; Set specific objectives consistent with State and Federal policy for providing services to veterans and their families who have the greatest economic and social need, and who are at risk for institutional placement; Implement and lead an inter-regional Veteran’s network that will create partnerships for support and referral resources for the veteran and military population.
Tasks Performed: Oversees coordination between divisions/departments throughout duration of projects to include interdepartmental communications relating to processes, procedures, and implementation strategies; Prepares and delivers presentations and status reports, including program and financial performance; Coordinates meetings between various regional partners; Assists in preparing and monitoring of annual department and program budget(s); Provides contract compliance and monitoring of grant financial requirements; Provides direction and general supervision to the Veteran Services Programs staff; Prepares and implements comprehensive plans for provision of services to veterans and their families; Prepares and manages grants and contracts; Comments on and provides technical assistance to member governments and private organizations which provide services to the military and veterans.
Desired Degree/Job Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Public Administration, Social Services or related field; Three (3) to five (5) years of responsible, supervisory experience or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skill, and abilities; Manages CUP Planner/GIS Coordinator, Veteran Services Programs staff, and various stake holder groups.
Other Qualifications: U.S. Military Veteran Preferred; Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, and client management systems; Experience collaborating with community partners; Strong fiscal background creating, implementing and managing budgets and contracts; Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills; Outstanding analytical and problem-solving abilities; Experience managing resources and personnel to achieve program requirements and AACOG mission; Valid Texas driver’s license or available alternate means of transportation.
This position is a Pay Grade 28. Salary commensurate with experience. This is an exempt position.Open until Filled. Only electronic online applications will be accepted.
