Position : Director of Visitor Experience and Business Operations

Job Description : The Mission of the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center is to realize a San Diego where everyone is connected to the power of Science. The Director of Visitor Experience and Business Operations supports the Fleet Mission and Visitor Experience Philosophy by managing our Ticketing Services Department, Café, Concessions, Store Operations, Special Events and Group Sales. Increasing sales and efficiency are key responsibilities. The Fleet’s Directors provide leadership to the Science Center’s major divisions and work together to on a variety of initiatives in support of the Fleet’s strategic direction.
Reports to: Chief Operating Officer
Direct Reports: Senior Guest Services Manager, Retail & Food Service Manager, Special Events and Group Sales Manager.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities, including mental requirements of position:

Responsible for managing and increasing overall earned income revenues for the company generated from admissions, retail (Café, Concessions & Store), Special Events, and Group Sales.
Assists departmental managers in developing and implementing strategies to increase profit margins through operational streamlining, merchandising and cost controls.
In collaboration with the Exhibits department, oversees visitor experience efforts to achieve excellent guest experience and a community focus.
Actively participates in organizational goal setting and strategic planning.
Prepares and monitors the annual budgets and current financial forecasts for overseen departments. Reviews expenses to ensure managed departments are meeting/exceeding budget projections.
Works closely with the Marketing Department to ensure that advertising dollars provide the best return on investment as it relates to overall revenues.
In collaboration with the Theater department, works to ensure programming aligns with mission and it’s financially beneficial to the Fleet.
Reviews and analyzes all attendance reports and sales data. Recommends and/or designs and creates new reports to assist in providing more timely and actionable information.
Assist in the preparation of Chief Executive Officer’s Report information concerning sales operations, performance and forecasts.
Implements asset protection procedures and ensures compliance.
Knowledgeable in and inform staff of safety and emergency plan manual procedures.
Assists the development of personnel policies as it relates to business operations of the company.
Recruits, selects, hires, and trains all direct reports. Works with departmental managers to ensure a consistent and equitable employee experience.
Follows guidelines for performance evaluations and succession planning programs.
Actively participates on the Fleet Safety Committee
Attends all required training programs.

Experience, education, or skills required of the incumbent in this position:

Minimum of 7-10 years related experience in a management position responsible for the attendance, operations, customer service, budget maintenance, and retail sales of a tourist-oriented attraction.
Advanced/expert level in the use of Microsoft Excel.
Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
Ability to hire, train, supervise and direct other employees.

Supervision, direction, or guidance provided for this position: Performs duties without day to day supervision. Will meet regularly with Chief Operating Officer to review progress and plans for increasing earned income.
Physical Requirements of this Position:
Sedentary Work: Position involves sitting much of the time. Standing and walking are required occasionally. Position requires ability to exert minimal force of up to 10 pounds occasionally and minimal force to carry, lift, push, and otherwise move objects frequently.
