Employee Development Specialist Position Summary:
Responsible for planning, organizing, developing and delivering training curricula, materials, and programs. Analyzes employee learning needs and partners with subject matter experts and business management to provide input for course content. Plans and coordinates skills assessments and training, including the design of computer-based training programs. May select and/or oversee vendors to develop/deliver training content or conduct training. Responsible for employee career development to make the best use of employees’ current and future abilities. Problems faced are difficult and sometimes complex.
Key Responsibilities & Duties:

Execute the learning strategy as defined by the Director and leadership team.
Evaluate individual and organizational development needs
Identify skill or knowledge gaps among the organizations employee population and develop training content in response to identified training needs.
Design, develop, and facilitate innovative leadership development programs for all levels that align with business strategy and objectives
Help managers develop team members by creating career paths
Implement various learning methods companywide (e.g., coaching, job-shadowing, online training)
Design and deliver e-learning courses, workshops, and other trainings
Developing and monitoring metrics for evaluating training and development effectiveness.
Selects training tools or training delivery mechanisms, based on the material being taught and the audience being targeted
Provide high quality internal consulting to identify gaps and opportunities for development and leads the design and execution of programs to enhance performance, alignment, consistency, and continuity in strategies
Collaborate with internal teams to assist and support employees in defining career paths and plans to accelerate their leadership development and to prepare them for roles of greater responsibility
Utilize a variety of training methods, mediums, and formats to develop high-performance employees and leaders throughout the organization
Analyze and apply trends and best practices in learning technologies and instructional design
Research, assess, and recommend third party providers for talent management tools and processes
Coaching and reviewing the work of lower-level professionals.
Build and maintain effective working relationships with third party providers in support of best-in-class, cost-effective, enterprise-wide development solutions
Utilize a variety of the training methodologies, including classroom, web based, job aids, e-learning, training guides and databases to ensure maximum effectiveness of training programs
Evaluating third party training providers
Partner with individual departments to outline deliverables, expectations and risks, to include specific training needs for staff
Act in accordance with Port Houston core values (respect, excellence, accountability, diligence, and you)
Perform other duties as required

Education & Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Development, Business Administration or related discipline from an accredited college or university required or a combination of education, training and experience that will enable the ability to successfully meet performance requirements.
3+ years of previous experience in similar training or organizational development role required
Previous experience in instructional design required
Training certification required or acquired within first 24 months in role

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Behaviors:

In-depth knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models
Knowledge of online learning management systems
Knowledge of career development concepts, practices and procedures
Exceptional listening, organizational, planning, problem resolution, presentation, facilitation and influencing skills required
Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to exercise independent judgment and effectively communicate with peers and management
Create and maintain a professional learning environment
Must be a leader that sets the standard and expectations through example in his/her conduct, work ethic, integrity and character
Must be dependable, reliable and punctual
Strong customer service-oriented approach, yet be able to articulate and suggest other potential pathways of accomplishing objectives – never be afraid to ask, “what if”
Excellent organization and time management skills with the ability to multi-task, juggle multiple priorities and function in a flexible environment. Must be flexible and have the ability to work under tight deadlines and be able to deliver completed work on time and with accuracy
Sound judgment and critical thinking skills
Attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
Demonstrated ability to work professionally and efficiently in fast paced environment with different personalities
Ability to self-manage work pace and assigned duties
Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio, and video scripts
