Basic Purpose

To research, analyze, interpret, recommend and enforce Navy Federal policies and practices that ensure Human Resource and Americans with Disability Act (ADA) compliance with relevant local, state, federal and other regulatory requirements and case law. To act as an advocate for employees and advise business partners on Navy Federal’s policies and vendor processes as they relate to complex leave management issues, Disability, and ADA Accommodations.

Responsibilities

Stay abreast of and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and industry laws, regulations and guidelines
Identify, coordinate and implement business communications requirements
Serve on teams and task groups for projects/initiatives within the business unit &/or across the organization
Apply and adhere to project management processes best practices
Develop & recommend enhancements to improve operational processes & procedures
Perform extensive legal research and analysis of precedent cases, judicial decisions and opinions and legislative developments
Prepare written legal summaries, analyses and routine legal documents
Act as the administrator and employee advocate for ADA and/or employees returning to work
Receive and review medical requests and/or documentation for temporary and/or permanent work accommodations
Collaborate with business unit leadership in making decisions regarding an employee’s ability in performing the job
Determine appropriate ADA accommodations or negotiates reasonable alternatives
Partner with other HR staff to facilitate employees’ transition to an active status
Identify equipment or systems that may support the return to work process for employees
Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Bachelor’s in business administration or equivalent experience
Experience in analyzing and interpreting regulatory requirements and case law
Advanced skill applying local, state, and federal employment regulations
Advanced research, analytical, and problem solving skills
Advanced verbal and written communication skills
Advanced skill to influence, negotiate and persuade to reach agreeable exchange and positive outcomes
Advanced skill presenting findings, conclusions, alternatives and information clearly and concisely
Advanced skill navigating multiple screens and PC applications and adapting to new technologies
Working knowledge of Leave of Absence administration, Return to Work procedures & Job Accommodation resources
Working knowledge of federal and state leave and disability laws related to benefits, HIPPA, FMLA, ADA, and substance abuse
Familiarity with medical and rehabilitation terminology
Advanced organizational, planning and time management skills
Significant experience in managing multiple priorities independently and/or in a team environment to achieve goals
Desired – Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC)
Desired – Certified Disability Management Specialist (CDMS)
Desired – PHR or SPHR Certification

Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00AM – 4:30PM

Salary range: Navy Federal Credit Union assesses market data to establish salary ranges that enable us to remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range, based on your experience, location and market position. The salary range for this position is: $72,300 to $123,500.
