Our client, a global leader in development and manufacturing of medical devices & Treatments for Chronic diseases / Respiratory disorders / Sleep-disordered breathing, seeks an accomplished Employee Relations Specialist.

*** Location: San Diego CA 92123 (Remote Acceptable)
*** Duration: 6 months, w/ possibility of extension or conversion to FTE role
Notes:
· Interview: 45 minutes via Zoom / Video call with Manager.
· This is a remote position that can be located anywhere in the U.S. Although, knowledge of California law is highly preferred.
· This position is starting as a 6-month contract, but the team would like to be able to convert/extend the worker; they just need to ensure there is a long-term need as there has been recent transformations within the people team’s organization unit.
· This is a true consultant position. Meaning, the candidate should be comfortable working with managers and leaders and offering them advise.
Description:
· Provide employee relations services in the U.S. and Canada. With the guidance of an Employee Relations Lead, the Employee Relations Specialist will be responsible for activities related to progressive discipline, performance management, workplace investigations, and data/case management.
· This role will provide consultation and support to People Business Partners/Advisors on employee relations matters that require judgment, interpretation of policies, and deep employee relations expertise and experience.
· The Employee Relations Specialist will offer creative and effective recommendations and solutions to challenging workplace issues. They will work from the principle of enabling fair and consistent execution of People policies and practices.
· Acts as advisor and coach to People Business Partners/Advisors as needed which includes policy interpretation, conflict resolution, and performance management/improvement cases.
· Promptly and thoroughly conducts and manages mid-high level workplace investigations of team member complaints and grievances with systematic approach to address root causes, develop and recommend actions and countermeasures, and effectively conclude investigations by facilitating a review of the decision with appropriate stakeholders and close out of actions and counter measures.
· Keeps detailed documentation and follows case management and tracking protocols.
· Serves as escalation point and reviewer for employment separations, position eliminations, and restructures (individual and group/mass layoffs).
· May partner with leaves specialist on escalated leave of absence cases.
· May be involved with creating reports and analyzing data for employee relations cases or identifying trends.
· May participate in legal or compliance reporting activities.
· Could be asked to partner with employee relations lead on complex cases and liaison meetings with legal.
· May conduct research on pending legislation and make recommendations on options for implementing.
· May help document policies and processes related to employee relations activities.
· May conduct routine investigations and performance improvement cases as needed.
· Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications:
· HR Professional certification and PHR/SPHR preferred.
· 3 or more years of human resources experience, with a strong emphasis in employee relations.
· Candidate should have 3-5 years of experience with low to medium investigations, employee relations, and a background in accommodations for special cases.
· The candidate should be professional and discreet as they will be working with sensitive and confidential information.
· The candidate should be able to stand their ground and explain why they are recommending the provided course of action.
· A huge plus would be a candidate that has experience with Covid cases.
· Experience in owning, handling, and executing employee relations investigations and preparation of appropriate documentation.
· Must be thorough and have strong attention to detail, ability to work independently, but a strong effective team player; commitment to results; solutions oriented; superior organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills – ability to create trust, present, influence, and negotiate.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality and respond appropriately using tact and good judgement to highly sensitive/confidential matters.
· Broad knowledge of employment laws.
· Be able to identify resources and navigate organization to problem solve Equivalent combination of experience and/or education may be considered.
