Position : Equipment Systems Specialist
Job Description : This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time Equipment Systems Specialist position for the Memorial Union at Oregon State University (OSU).
The person in this position works within the Memorial Union Guest Services team, other MU units and clients to support the technical requirements related to events at all MU Facilities. The position plans, designs, maintains and installs audio/video systems for events and provides technical support of media applications, operations and distribution of installed meeting and event space systems. The position requires strong technical knowledge and service focus to successfully meet client expectations.
The person in is this position must be well-organized and able to keep work up to date, meet people easily and maintain composure during unplanned requests, technical difficulties or equipment changes. This person will exemplify a knowledge and appreciation of the intricacies of the collegiate calendar, learn the organizational culture within the institution, and understand the components of vendor and performer contracts, legal and financial implications of contractual agreements. The Equipment Systems Specialist will successfully communicate, understand, and interact among persons with differing assumptions that may exist because of ethnic and cultural orientations.
The Memorial Union exists to develop students, create learning opportunities and provide quality facilities and services. The Equipment Systems Specialist will support the core purposes by delivering continual training to student staff with varying skill sets.
Position Duties
30% AUDIO/VISUAL OPERATIONS & SUPPORT
Set up, or set up and operate, audio and visual equipment including microphones, sound speakers, video screens, projectors, video monitors, Video racks, streaming and recording equipment, connecting wires and cables, sound and mixing boards, laptops/computers, teleconference and video conference equipment and related electronic equipment and facility furnishings for concerts, events, meetings and conventions and presentations. Set up and operate associated spotlights and other custom lighting systems. Delivers training to student staff on the setup, operation and troubleshooting of technical equipment. Organize event orders on a daily/weekly basis based on student skill sets and schedules for event managers, stage managers, audio and lighting technicians.
30% DESIGN AND INSTALLATION
Design sound and lighting systems for event spaces and meeting rooms. Installs and aligns equipment for proper operation of systems. Performs physical installations of AV equipment. Liaisons with vendors of computer, AV equipment and software used in systems. Use software to integrate hardware and program AV control systems. Troubleshoots control system designs and installations. Tests equipment after installation and/or repair to ensure it operates as specified.
30% EQUIPMENT AND SOFTWARE MAINTENANCE AND INVENTORY
Monitor Crestron programming in all installed systems. Maintain equipment inventory utilizing web-based software. Reorders supplies such as gaffers’ tape, lighting gels and batteries, cables, adapters based on inventory controls and event needs. Plans equipment purchases and large repairs. Perform routine preventative maintenance on all equipment, replacing parts as needed to keep equipment in good working order. Troubleshoots, makes repairs and assists in determining equipment replacement cycles. Works with users to trouble shoot and determine nature of issues and communicates resolutions to users. Works with vendors to diagnose equipment issues and makes repairs. Troubleshoots software issues and makes repairs as needed.
10% RESEARCHES EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES AND METHODS in video distribution and presentation, interactive technologies and instructional environments. Recommends future roadmaps for strategies and infrastructure for new instructional systems and technologies for teaching and learning environments. Attends professional workshops and meetings and shares knowledge and networks with other design professionals. Also enhances expertise by reading appropriate professional journals, manuals and trade publications.
Minimum Qualifications
This classification requires a basic foundation of knowledge and skills of equipment and systems that would normally be obtained through an associate of arts degree in electronics or industrial technology, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or directly related experience.
Additional Required Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to problem solve solutions for event based audio-visual equipment in a timely manner. Ability to think quickly in time sensitive situations.
Knowledge of set-up, tear-down, and maintenance of latest technologies in audio visual equipment. Demonstrated ability to teach and train others in proficient use of audio-visual equipment.
Demonstrated extraordinary customer service, courtesy and diplomacy.
Demonstrated ability to complete training of the following:
Crestron for maintenanceQSC, Q-SYS user control interface, trouble shootingBiamp for networked audio and video processing and distributionNetwork-audio interface protocols
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OAR 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 24 months.
This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
Minimum of three years’ experience in audio/video, sound reinforcement and lighting technology environment.Demonstrated experience in lead work and training responsibilities.Completed trainings relevant to the equipment and software programs used in this position.Experience with Crestron Programming.Excellent public relation, interpersonal skills and communication skills.Demonstrated experience in team-based work environmentsThe person in this position will often be required to lift, push and pull objects weighing up to 60 lbs.Ability to install and assemble components and parts by reading and interpreting reference manuals.General knowledge with digital and analogue equipment for repair and performance problems.A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
Shift and/or work assignment may be changed based on event needs. Evening and weekend hours frequently scheduled. Position will occasionally work in outdoor spaces in inclement weather.
Position will occasionally drive vehicles primarily on campus.
This position is deemed essential and the incumbent may be expected to report to work during inclement weather, emergency and other University work curtailments or closures.
