Job Description : ORGANIZATION
The Grossmont Healthcare District (District) is a public agency that supports health-related community programs and services in San Diego’s East County region, and leases Grossmont Hospital operations to Sharp HealthCare on behalf of local taxpayers. The District is governed by a five-member board of directors, representing approximately 500,000 people residing within the District’s 750 square miles.The District operates the Herrick Community Health Care Library (Library), a public library specializing in consumer health information, education, and outreach.
POSITION
The Head Librarian is responsible for the daily operations of the library, organizing the collections and services of the Grossmont Healthcare District Herrick Community Health Care Library, as well as supervising library staff. This position helps to maintain excellent information services and quality library operations. The Herrick Library is a public consumer health library specializing in health and wellness materials. The mission of the library is to help meet the health information needs of the community and residents.
· Supervises and trains library staff
· Conducts analysis of library utilization
· Researches and implements potential new programs, services and events
· Responsible for collection development and management
· Responsible for acquisition of print and digital materials
· Ensures cataloging principles are followed for inventory and discoverability purposes
· Provides reference and research assistance to library users
· Manages the front desk
· Leads in developing of social media, website, and advertising content
· Represents the Library at local health fairs and events
· Assists with Library budget preparation.
The Head Librarian position requires a minimum three years of library experience, two years of supervisory experience and a bachelor’s degree. A bachelor’s degree and master’s degree (MLS or MLIS) is required.
