Position : Kindergarten Assistant
Job Description : Fort Worth Country Day is seeking an experienced early childhood professional to serve as a Kindergarten Assistant beginning with the 2022–2023 school year. Reporting to the Head of Lower School, we are seeking applicants who will be actively engaged and involved beyond the classroom as a member of a family-centered, independent school community.
The Kindergarten Assistant is a full-time exempt position that teaches full-time in the classroom like all other lead teaching positions. Expected hours are typically 7:45 a.m. – 3:45 p.m. during the academic year.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Co-teach and plan the academic areas appropriate to the class; assume the role of lead teacher as needed
Assume partial responsibility for instruction of children in Kindergarten during the academic year
Work with individual children or small groups of children
Create materials that support skills in appropriate academic areas
Seasonally decorate the Kindergarten foyer and halls in collaboration with colleagues
Collaborate with the lead teacher of the class on professional projects and curriculum development
Communicate with parents on a professional level under the direction of the lead teacher
Participate in professional development and staff development training
Perform all designated duties including carpool, lunch and recess as assigned
Attend planning sessions, department and division meetings as directed
Report to work on the same schedule as the lead teacher, including required attendance at graduation and at meetings that fall outside of the academic year calendar
Assist in the screening of prospective Kindergarten students
Attend Admission open house events
The ideal candidate will also have:
Knowledge about and experience with the developmental, social, emotional and cognitive issues of children in the early childhood years
The ability to professionally and compassionately relate to children of different learning styles and backgrounds
Strong ethical principles
Good planning and organizational skills
Excellent communication and classroom management skills
The ability to work successfully with colleagues on a team and within the division
An obvious passion for working with young children
Qualifications:
Early childhood classroom experience and knowledge base
Bachelor’s degree preferred
Physical Requirements:
Must to be to stand for up to 8 hours per day
Must be able to walk students to and from lunch, PE, art, music, etc. each day
Bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, lifting
