About the Position:
Serves as an innovative leader within the library, city government, and the community. Is an information advocate and forward thinker who inspires learning, discovery and the development of 21st century skills in staff, volunteers, and the community.
This position oversees the Youth and Teen Services Department at Civic Center Library and has responsibilities in various areas. Provides leadership and supervision to frontline staff and collaborates with other departments and organizations to fulfill the library’s mission. Manages the development and implementation of new and/or enhanced library programs and services. Works in tandem with other department supervisors, Branch Managers, and Program Coordinators to maintain effective operations of all areas. Oversees scheduling, programming, hiring, training, mentoring, and evaluation of professional and paraprofessional staff within the Civic Center Library Youth and Teen Services Department. Regularly serves as Person in Charge, effectively communicating library policies and procedures for patrons and staff. Takes an active role in the Civic Center Library Leadership Team to ensure effective operations of Civic Center Library. This position works a variable schedule to include a rotation of days, nights, and weekends.

Selection Process:
Applicants whose education, training and experience most closely meet the needs of the position may be invited to participate in a selection process to include a panel interview and an assessment exercise. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include:
Fingerprinting
Criminal Background screening for the past 7 years
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
A Master’s Degree in library science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited university, or a Master’s degree in a related field from an accredited educational institution.
Three years of progressively responsible library experience.
Must have at least one year of Lead or Supervisory experience.
An equivalent combination of education and job related experience may substitute for the educational requirements on a year-for-year basis.
Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements
Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.
Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on department/section assignment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to any combination of the following:
Provides and models exceptional customer service by making the customer the first priority.
Supervises employees and coordinates personnel-related activities to include, but not limited to: training, approving work schedules, recommending/approving personnel actions, coaching and counseling, establishing performance goals, and writing performance evaluations.
Manages, creates and/or delivers exceptional programming and educational opportunities within the library, through community outreach, and virtually.
Communicates library policies and procedures, requests compliance with Library Rules of Conduct, and serves as “In-Charge” person in the evenings, on weekends, and as assigned.
Identifies, plans and oversees projects including grants.
