Job Description : Position Function
Under the direction of the Director of Library and/or Designee, performs assigned duties necessary for the development and implementation of public programs for including, but not limited to: education, literacy, literature, educational and craft programs, culture, technology, and career growth. Coordinates, markets and/or participates in local events and activities representing City and Library programs.

Essential Duties

Performs assigned duties necessary for the development and implementation of public programs for including, but not limited to: education, literacy, literature, educational and craft programs, culture, technology, and career growth. Coordinates, markets and/or participates in local events and activities representing City and Library programs. Responsible for assisting library users at the Information Desk, via phone, and via email with information need by accessing print and electronic sources in a wide range of formats. Assists in preparing and analyzing library reports, developing and maintaining the library’s adult collections, and marketing the collection through displays and promotions.

Performs assigned duties necessary to manage the library’s inter-library loan and lending program, to include but not limited to: shipping and receiving materials, and library and/or community partnerships.

Assists with the preparation of related budget items for programs and the procurement of needed supplies and materials, and vendors.

Hearing – customer assistance, telephone, meetings, etc.

Pushing/Pulling/Reaching/Stooping/Twisting – supplies, files, file boxes, books, periodicals, retrieving, storage shelves, rolling carts, etc.

Standing – making presentations, assisting customers, directing meetings, site inspections, drill exercises, etc.

Sitting – desk work, meetings, driving, etc.

Vision – computer and desk work, budget, invoices, driving, plans, contracts, agreements, etc.

Walking – to and from office, around office, to and from buildings, site inspections, assisting customers, meetings, presentations, etc.

Environment

Duties are generally performed in an office environment. Possible exposure to dust, mold, and electricity. May require participation in outdoor activities and/or events that could result in the exposure to outdoor allergens, exhaust, fumes, humidity, and/or extreme or inclement weather.

Requirements/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Required knowledge and experience is normally obtained through the completion of an advanced education from an accredited educational institution of higher learning resulting in a Master’s Degree in Library Sciences, five (5) years of work related experience in Library Sciences and/or Library management is required.

Experience with developing and implementing adult programs strongly preferred.

Work requires the ability to read letters, memos, contracts, professional and industry literature, spreadsheets and other job related analysis.

Work requires substantial independent judgment and decision-making.

Work is widely varied, involving analyzing and evaluating many complex and significant variables.

Competent in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and Power Point software.

Must be able to research, compile and analyze data, and then present findings to management in an acceptable format.

Must exhibit attention to detail, accuracy, and safety.

Must be able to monitor and assess operations, workload, projects, and staff performance.

Ability to work under high demands, short time constraints, and pressure of a fast paced work environment.

Ability to remain up-to-date on Federal, State and City regulations, best practices and policies affecting department and job related activities.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working and professional relationships with City and other public employees, public officials, contractors, consultants, vendors, and the general public.

Ability to learn and be competent in the use of the Library’s various integrated software systems (e.g., Koha, Bibliotheca, TechLogic, etc.).

Must possess a valid Texas Class C driver license.

Must pass all post offer pre-employment processes and/or procedures, to include but not limited to Drug Screen, Physical Examination, and applicable Background Checks.
