Are we the right company for you?
At Northstar Dermatology, we strive to positively change people’s assumptions about what it means to seek out and receive medical care. Our goal is to make every patient interaction pleasantly unexpected, and to be the leaders in delivering trustworthy, honest care from a team that treats you like family.
Our core values are the foundation of everything we do at Northstar Dermatology. Every member of our team not only believes in our core values, but lives them.
1. “People First.” – Every person on our team is a genuinely caring individual. It is common for our employees to go out of their way just to help someone in need. Not only do we care about our patients, but we also truly care about our employees. Our team is the reason we are a successful practice, and we love to recognize their hard work and success.
2. “Transparency.” – This is really important to us. We believe that people deserve honesty and clarity when it comes to their medical treatment and their financial responsibilities. Our patients need to feel completely trusting in the team that is responsible for their care. To earn their trust, we practice conscientious, evidence-based medicine, set realistic treatment expectations, provide upfront and clear communication, and hold ourselves accountable for our responsibilities.
3. “Be Unexpected.” – We are innovative, different, and strive to be unexpected. We are always looking for ways to improve and change how healthcare is delivered. Our employees love to think out of the box! Everyone is required to provide regular feedback and creative ideas on how we can innovate or be different.
4. “Efficiency.” – Every move we make is intentional and has efficiency in mind. We are constantly thinking how we can make our day more efficient in order to do more in less time.
Our company culture:
Our team is made up of high-level, innovative thinkers who work hard, have great people skills, and are team-minded. We enjoy interacting with a lot of patients each day, and everyone challenges themselves to create a memorable, positive experience for each patient. On a scale of 1 to 10, our employees would describe their workload as an “8” or “high workload, but achievable, so long as you don’t sit around and waste time.” The work isn’t necessarily stressful, but the patient volume and pace will require you to move quickly and be productive.
The expectations are high at our practice – we are by no means your average medical office. Firstly, know that you will be expected to learn a lot of new information and skills very quickly when you start. This will require independent self-study in addition to your in-clinic training. We don’t require previous experience in Dermatology, but we do require you to be accountable for your own learning. In other words, we’ll teach it to you, but it’s up to you to take the initiative to learn, take notes, study, and retain the information. Our team members absolutely LOVE learning, so this is something they all really looked forward to. In fact, when we ask our employees what they love most about their jobs, one of the most common responses is “How much I get to learn!”
Second, be aware that we see a high volume of patients each day and we like to move quickly to stay on schedule. We are known for seeing patients on time, if not early. This is because we use critical thinking to make appropriate triaging decisions, and we are very intentional in our actions to work efficiently. The most successful team members at Northstar are pros at time management and know how to prioritize their responsibilities exceptionally well.
Finally, we recognize the capabilities of our team members and we like to put their talents and skills to use. At Northstar Dermatology, you aren’t “just a receptionist” or “just a medical assistant,” and we’ll never treat you as such. We believe our employees feel more fulfilled in their job roles when they are challenged and provided the opportunity to make a real difference. This means you will be expected to do more, and think on a higher level than “just a receptionist” or “just a medical assistant.” Additionally, we know that our employees are the best source of feedback to determine what is working well in our day, and what needs improvement. As mentioned in our core values above, our employees love to think creatively, and everyone is required to provide regular feedback on how we can improve existing processes.
Even though we work hard to meet high expectations, everyone on our team loves what they do! We can always be found smiling and laughing while at work. Each team member exhibits positivity and warmth, and the atmosphere is pleasant, encouraging, and team-minded. Although each person has individual responsibilities, everyone takes the initiative to offer assistance to their colleagues. It is common for our employees to form long-lasting friendships with their colleagues. Even though each individual has different strengths and unique personality traits, we all share common values and goals, and that’s what makes our company great.
A day in the life of a Medical Assistant:
You are a genuinely caring individual who loves to help others. You are intrigued by Dermatology and want to be part of helping patients achieve their treatment goals. You are detail-oriented and thorough in your work, and adaptable to working with different people.
The Medical Assistants at Northstar Dermatology are not your typical MA. Our Medical Assistants have the opportunity to work alongside our providers to assist with all aspects of patient care. The MA team is actively involved during the entirety of the patient visit, and our providers rely on the skills of our Medical Assistants to conduct an efficient and successful appointment. As a MA, you will be rooming the patient, obtaining their medical history and reason for visit, preparing and delivering a formal presentation to the provider, and then you will go back into the room and scribe the entire exam note for the provider. During scribing, you must be fully engaged in listening to capture and document all of the pertinent history information and treatment plan instructions. You’ll also need to type quickly as the exams are very quick and efficient!
One of the best parts about being a Medical Assistant at Northstar Dermatology is that you will be very hands-on! Our MA’s love that they get to assist with different types of surgical and cosmetic procedures every day. In addition, Medical Assistants are responsible for various clinical duties such as sterilizing instruments, calling patients to deliver lab or pathology results, triaging and taking messages for the providers, sending in prescriptions, and following up with patient care. Since our Medical Assistants handle some important responsibilities, it is crucial that they are accurate and detailed in all of their work. Well-written, thorough documentation is expected from all of our Medical Assistants.
Finally, the Medical Assistant team is just that – a team. The MA team works incredibly well together to ensure that all the clinical duties are done for the day. Everyone looks out for each other and steps in to help when needed.
Our patients often ask for our Medical Assistants by name and rave about how wonderful they are – and we couldn’t agree more! Our Medical Assistants works really hard to ensure that patients are cared for, and they do it all with style and grace!
Well, what do you think?
Do you still think this is the company for you? Do you feel aligned with our values? Do you see yourself meeting the expectations set for our team members? Are you ready to learn a lot, move quickly, and contribute to changing the world of healthcare? If yes, we hope that you’ll submit your resume to apply for the position! Once we review resumes, we will select a number of candidates to move to the next step of our application process – a video interview.
