Position : Museum Educator

Job Description : We are currently searching for a confident and experienced museum educator to join our team. If you are a friendly and competent professional with interest in education and arthropods then we’re interested in you. Your duties will include giving guided museum tours, virtual tours, zoo-to-you shows, and tabling events.
To excel in this role, you should have in-depth knowledge of effective teaching practices that ensure learning is a comfortable and meaningful experience. Our ideal candidate has excellent interpersonal and organizational skill, with a strong command of the English language. Bi-lingual is a huge plus!
Museum Educator Responsibilities:

Have in-depth knowledge of the arthropods, lizards, and mammals in our care
Follow procedures
Actively monitoring for safety throughout the museum or institution
Organizing and conducting tours and workshops for museum visitors
Teaching on-site programs to school groups
Acting as a community liaison among artists, technicians, teachers and volunteers participating in museum events
Processing transactions in the museum store or ticket booth

Museum Educator Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
Bachelor’s degree in teaching is preferred.
Certificate in teaching or substitute teaching preferred.
A minimum of 2 years experience in a similar role.
Must be detail oriented and able to follow written and verbal instructions.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
MUST BE COMFORTABLE HANDLING ARTHOPODS, LIZARDS, AND MAMMALS (ie tarantulas, cockroaches, snakes, hedgehogs, etc)

We are proud to be Philadelphia’s newest science museum and to showcase one of the most diverse living arthropod collections in the United States. With two floors of new museum exhibits, a 7,000 square foot tropical butterfly pavilion, and Next Generation aligned educational programming, we offer a unique and interactive experience for all to enjoy.
We are fully committed to educating the public about the environmental importance of arthropods. Our community events, classes, and free programs help us to teach individuals about the ecology of the most important group of animals in the world: insects!
PLEASE NOTE: All job candidates will be required to show Covid-19 vaccination card at first interview!
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.00 – $19.00 per hour
