Job Description : The Department of Economic Security is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as Occupational Safety Consultant 4 with the Office of Facilities Management.

Job Duties:

Working with direction from the Occupational Safety Administrator, this individual performs highly responsible tasks in developing the Department’s risk management and loss control program, investigating work environments for conditions of compliance, and enforcing State and Federal Occupational Safety and Health standards, regulations, laws, rules, and codes. Responsibilities consist of scheduling and prioritizing work activities, completing reports and case files, and completing inspection, investigation, or technical reports to include hazard and risk assessments, evaluations, and recommendations for mitigation. This individual assesses all DES owned and leased buildings, or buildings under consideration for the lease or lease renewal, to ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and serves as a point of contact following applicable sections of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) General Duty Clause and U.S. Department of Labor standards.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of Section 5(a)(1) of the OSH Act (OSHA General Duty Clause) and the U.S. Department of Labor standards.
Knowledge of OSHA/ADOSH training and familiarity with assessing work-related occupational safety and health factors that may pose risk.
Knowledge of EPA guidelines, including the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) and National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP).
Knowledge of respiratory protection and fit testing methods.
Knowledge of ADA of 1990, ADA Amendments Act of 2008 (effective January 1, 2009), and Revised ADA Regulations Implementing Title II and Title III dated July 23, 2010.
Knowledge of commercial and residential building design and construction pertaining to Federal ADA Code compliance.
Skill in interpersonal relations as applied to contacts with representatives of other governmental agencies, other agency employees, and the public.
Skill in the use and operation of a variety of safety, monitoring, testing equipment, and interpretation of results.
Skill in Microsoft Office. Gmail, and Google Workspace applications.
Skill in fiscal control of projects.
Ability to read and interpret floor plans and implement ADA Code specifications.
Ability to establish effective working relationships with individuals contacted in the course of work.
Ability to speak and write effectively.
Ability to assess, calculate, and determine ADA requirements in commercial and residential buildings.

Selective Preference(s):

Prefer a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety; four years of experience in identifying, preventing, and eliminating safety hazards in work methods or environmental conditions in government or private sector workplaces; significant knowledge and experience with ADA-related activities, OSHA and EPA regulations; and AHERA certification from an accredited provider.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify), applicable to all newly hired State employees.
Successfully pass background and reference checks; employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions.
The position will require the possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete any driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12). Individuals may be required to use their personal motor vehicle.

Retirement:
