PC#: 2786-5Pay Grade: 305Salary Range: $34,836 – $42,391Duty Days: 245
Position Purpose
Under general supervision, performs skilled brush, roller, and spray painting, and applies coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect exterior and interior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of buildings and structures throughout the District.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Maintenance & Repair

Prepares surfaces for painting, including sanding and removing old paint, filling holes, cracks, and joints with appropriate filler; tapes, floats, and textures walls and ceilings.
Paints surfaces, using brushes, spray gun, paint rollers, or other methods to achieve required effects. Stains, seals, and varnishes wood surfaces. Surfaces include but are not limited to: interior and exterior walls, glass, plaster, brick, stucco, cement, and wallboard woodwork, and metalwork of buildings and equipment, such as tables, cabinets, rooms, halls, auditoriums, roofs, fences, and playground apparatus.
Selects premixed paints or mixes required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint to match specified colors, blend, harmonize, and contrast in specified colors and consistencies to be applied to painted or stained surfaces including oil-or vinyl-based paints and other finishes.
Erects rigs, scaffolding, swing stages, and extension ladders, or uses hoists to perform tasks above ground level.
Picks up and delivers painting supplies to campuses; maintains delivery records.
Receives and completes work orders. Identifies and completes needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment using established inspection procedures. Maintains accurate records on material and labor used.
Maintains inventory of tools and assists with inventory control of materials and equipment.
Inspects jobs after completion and ensures areas are clean.

Safety

Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing; operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
Handles and disposes of paint, stain, varnish, and other chemicals according to established procedures.
Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and promptly reports any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, practices, and tools used in painting trade.
Knowledge of and ability to mix paint to match colors.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards of the trade and precautionary measures to be observed.
Knowledge of brush, roller, and spray painting practices, processes, tools, and materials.
Knowledge of methods of application of various paints and finishes to a variety of materials.
Knowledge of methods of preparing various surfaces for painting or finishing.
Knowledge of safety precautions required in the handling and storage of painting materials.
Knowledge of safety regulations pertaining to erecting and working on ladders, swing stages, rigging, and scaffolds.
Knowledge of proper use of tools of the trade.
Skill in interpersonal relationships, including using tact, patience, and courtesy.
Ability to properly apply paints.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to work at various heights.
Ability to read and understand procedure manuals, operating manuals, assembly instructions, safety precautions, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), work orders, and instructions from superiors.
Ability to organize and coordinate work.
Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written forms.
Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

Travel Requirements

Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Physical & Mental Demands, Work Hazards

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard carpentry equipment including small hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments; light truck or van.
Posture: Prolonged standing, stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding; frequent repetitive hand motions, including grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving.
Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis.
Environment: Works outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; poor ventilation and poor lighting; works around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; works at various heights; works irregular and/or prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel.
Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.
Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions.

Minimum Required Qualifications

Education: Accredited High School diploma, GED, or Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency.
Certification/License: Clear and valid Texas Driver’s License.
Experience: 5 years’ as painter.
Additional Requirements: Employees must provide necessary personal tools to perform assigned duties. The FWISD is prohibited from replacing stolen or broken personal property.

INSURABILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL DRIVERS

Must be at least 21 years old.
NO positive drug or alcohol tests including pre-employment, random, post-accident or reasonable suspicion.
Driving and accident record:

Valid Texas Department of Public Safety Driver Record Check Type 3A-Certified list of all crashes and violations http://dps.texas.gov/DriverLicense/driverrecords.htm

NO more than 2 violations during previous 36 months including:
moving traffic violations (including no more than 1 preventable accident);
failure to provide proof of valid driver’s license or proof of insurance;
equipment violations.
NO Driving Under the Influence (DUI) for drug or alcohol.
NO leaving scene of an accident (bodily injury or physical damage).
NO vehicular assault, manslaughter, or homicide.
NO operating a vehicle with suspended or revoked driver’s license.
NO reckless driving, speed contests, drag racing, or highway racing.
NO use of a vehicle in commission of a felony.
NO operating a vehicle without owner’s permission (unauthorized use or grand theft).
NO permitting an unlicensed person to drive.
NO speeding more than 20 mph over the posted speed limit.
NO history of a conviction in a commercial or personal motor vehicle.
Additional restrictions may apply if directed by FWISD’s Fleet Insurance Carrier.
