Position Available: Part-Time Survivor Mentor
Support Center for Child Advocates (Child Advocates) is seeking a Part-Time Survivor Mentor to support Project PROTECT in WRAP Court clients and Youth Survivor Advisory Board members. Work for a premier child advocacy program. Experience outstanding staff collegiality and commitment to quality service in this grant-funded position.
Agency and Project: Child Advocates provides legal and social service advocacy for children in Philadelphia who have experienced abuse and neglect. Child Advocates utilizes a “whole child” model of representation, focusing on advocacy for safety, health, education, family permanency, and access to justice for child clients.
Child Advocates’ Project PROTECT (Philadelphia Response & Outreach To End Child Trafficking) in Working to Restore Adolescent Power (WRAP) Court is designed to address the needs of child victims of human trafficking (CVHT). The Project’s goals include improving the identification of CVHT, expanding trauma-informed intervention models, facilitating the collaboration of relevant professionals and stakeholders, and educating the community on serving CVHT. Project PROTECT convenes the Philadelphia Juvenile Anti-Trafficking Coalition to promote the collaboration of agencies in Philadelphia serving CVHT. The Youth Survivor Advisory Board, a group of 8 young people ages 18-24 who were trafficked as children, provides survivor insight and expertise to the work of the Coalition.
Position Summary: The Survivor Mentor is a part-time (approximately 20 hours a week), in-person community-based position supporting system reform initiatives through Project PROTECT and its Youth Survivor Advisory Board. The Survivor Mentor will provide mentorship services and support to current CVHT and Youth Survivor Advisory Board members (“Board members”), including the following tasks:

Provide support to mentees with trauma and cultural awareness.
Connect mentees to services that meet their individualized needs.
Co-develop, schedule and facilitate monthly Youth Survivor Advisory Board meetings.
Attend monthly Juvenile Anti-Trafficking Coalition meetings to provide support to Board members.
Develop a Survivor Mentorship program with Project staff to serve system-involved CVHT.
Attend trainings and/or complete certifications to improve practice.

Qualifications: Required: Personal history as a survivor of human trafficking or commercial sexual exploitation; a minimum of a high school diploma or GED and/or relevant work experience; experience working with system-involved youth; PA State, FBI and Child Abuse Clearances. A current driver’s license and/or ability to travel on public transportation. Preferred: Knowledge of the different services for youth in Philadelphia and experience connecting youth to these services. Experience advocating for systemic and/or policy change related to individual lived experience.
Benefits: Salary starts at $18 per hour. Benefits incl. health (pro rata for part-time), disability & life insurance, 401-K, cafeteria plan for dependent care expenses, and generous leave program.
