Primary purpose of the position:
Performs tasks and provides services to support the plant’s production goals, overall business plans and objectives as directed.
Essential Responsible Areas:
Sets up drum on drum stand; removes bung and feeds coating into feeding tank.
Makes design changeovers and setups; changes and sets up inking heads.
Uses SMED tools to conduct label change overs as timely and efficient as possible.
Makes running adjustments such as: form roller adjustments, plate registration, overvarnish adjustments, pressure adjustments on plate cylinders, spindle to blanket, toe-in, ink fountains for ink flow; sets timing of machines.
Maintains ink supply in inkers; mixes material.
Conducts inker pm’s per QAS instructions.
Follow all company mandated work instructions for the printer area.
Visually inspects quality of cans being run; removes faulty-quality cans and makes any required adjustment to match quality standards..
Clears jams and cleans out cans in printer, pin oven, overvarnish unit, bottom coater and related trackwork.
Cleans and changes blankets.
Maintains varnish in overvarnish and bottom coater and assures viscosity is in spec.
Removes, cleans and/or changes mandrels as required.
Assists service and setup man on major repairs.
Straightens bent pin chain pins.
Replace all prespin belts, bottom varnish rolls and bottom varnish drive belts.
Lubricates equipment when required.
Conducts daily, weekly and monthly PMs on printer, overvarnish unit, bottom varnish units and pin ovens.
Keep air infeed table clean.
Keep printer, pin oven, bottom varnish units clean and wiped down each shift – no cans laying around or on equipment (including pin oven mezzanine and infeed air table and associated trackwork).
Provide relief support when other printer operators on break.
Provide relief support by making sure no jams in Inside Spray Area when I/S Operator is on break.
Completes proper press plate transactions
Checks plates out and verifies from STORE to PRODUCTION
Assures press plate quality is acceptable prior to using press plates.
Checks plates back into STORE from PRODUCTION
Assures press plates are clean prior to returning to bin.
If plates are bad then notify Foreman to be scrapped out.
Uses work order system to purchase parts from store room
Uses work order system to capture any maintenance work performed on printer, over varnish unit, bottom varnish units and track work.
Uses work order system to log any suggestions for equipment improvement or maintenance needs.
Uses SAP to monitor production schedule and to prepare in advance next label.
Uses QAS quality system to input checks completed and related quality information.
Position Requirement & competencies:
High School Diploma or education equivalent required.
Job-related experience for 2 years minimum.
Ability to apply standard evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard can and end making techniques, procedures, and criteria.
Ability to learn operating principles of all assigned equipment.
Must be able to handle sensitive related and proprietary information in a confidential manner.
Performs such individual assignments as management may direct.
Must follow company policies, procedures, practices, and standards of conduct as outlined in the Ball Corporation manuals.
Maintains awareness and complies with hazardous waste management and other environmental management requirements in the workplace by attending scheduled training sessions.
Ability to learn nomenclature of all assigned equipment, products, and quality standards.
Ability to learn to identify product defects.
Proficient in the use of hand and power tools.
Ability to operate fork truck and aero lift if required.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
Must have strong interpersonal skills.
Must be able to organize, plan, and prioritize.
Ability to meet deadlines and to concentrate and pay attention to details.
Must have sufficient endurance to perform tasks over long periods of time.
Ability to operate and functionally use a computer.
Must maintain professional competence, ethical integrity, knowledge, and skills.
Working knowledge of the following areas: nomenclature of all assigned equipment and products.
Possesses an interest in and an aptitude for mechanics.
May require forklift license.
Works in a manufacturing environment.
This position is exposed to occupational hazards, including but not limited to, high noise levels, physical obstacles, exposure to chemicals, etc.
Must wear appropriate safety glasses, hearing protection, clothing, and footwear in appropriate areas and follow safety practices.
Works in confined area(s)
Compensation & Benefits
Hiring Salary Range: $27.14
