Position : Program Coach
Job Description : SUMMARY
Provides, coordinates, and monitors a variety of direct care activities for clients in the residential, group home or other client treatment environment. Maintains the residences and clients in a clean and safe environment. Offers appropriate intervention services; facilitating individual, group and family conferences.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Ensure consistent and appropriate activities according to NMT model.
Utilize activities manual to plan, implement and participate in activities that have a therapeutic value for clients and compliments treatment goals
Modify activities according to the needs for the clients and the environment
Allow clients to participate at all times with modifications only for safety
Aware of restrictive intervention plans for each client
Ensure clinical interventions according to NMT model.
Transitional routines
Life space interviews
Appropriate tone of voice and interaction
Limited use of consequences and effective use of teaching, role modeling, and correction
Observation of client rights
Acknowledge clients
Point out positive behaviors
Verbalize actions
Teach and reinforce skills
Link feeling to behaviors
Give choices
Restrictive interventions used according to guidelines, trainings, and refreshers
Participation in therapeutic activities according to NMT
Leading and engaging clients in activities
Participate in activities implemented by recreation therapist, volunteers, and teachers
Participate in academics
Participate in group therapy activities
Participation in NMT staffing and treatment planning
Attendance in weekly cottage staffing
Positive communication with families
Effective communication of treatment issues to the treatment team
Documentation quality and quantity.
Progress notes completed on time
Progress notes are good quality as evidenced by details that reflect PCP, appropriate use of grammar, legibility, and individualized
RI notes are completed on time
RI notes are good quality as evidenced by appropriate use of grammar, legibility, and an accurate account of events
Incident reports are completed on time
Incident reports are of good quality as evidenced by appropriate use of grammar, legibility, and an accurate account of events
Precautions forms and restriction of rights forms completed when applicable.
Sleep logs are completed as bed checks are being made.
Consistent routine and daily planning
Adheres to posted schedules
All clients participate with modification for safety reasons only
Daytime staff complete and use daily lesson plans to coordinate activities
Evening and weekend staff ensures daily activities and support volunteer groups during their activities and routine.
Customer service
Positive interaction with families, guardians, and other professionals involved in the treatment process
Regular communication with families and treatment team on the progress of clients as well as other information.
Plans appropriate recreational and educational activities to enrich the therapeutic milieu through BHC’s
Utilize activities manual to plan activities that are engaging, age appropriate, therapeutic, and makes good use of programming schedules and resources.
Use lesson plan books to plan and document activities and stick to the plan unless a need arises to modify activities and academics based on safety, crisis, or reasonable “teaching moments” in which the focus should change.
Communicate with and work effectively with the recreation coordinator to plan and implement activities and work with volunteers.
Attendance
Give at least two weeks notice with submitting PTO requests.
Contact immediate supervisor for last minute call outs.
Last minute call outs will be for emergency reasons only and subject to documentation requests
Work regular schedule.
Remain alert and in assigned cottage/classroom for the duration of the shift
Attend all required trainings.
Problem identification and proactive resolution
Identify problems areas and bring them to the attention of the Program Supervisors in a timely manner
Offer thoughtful solutions for problem areas
Assume responsibility for problems in need of immediate attention
Professionalism
Appropriate physical and verbal interaction with coworkers
Clothing that does not pose a hazard given the population and the possible use of physical interventions (no high heel shoes, open toes shoes, sandals, flip flops, dangling jewelry).
T-shirts with appropriate logos, language, and art
Effective utilization of supervisor
Participate in individual and group supervision as needed
Receive and give constructive criticism in a positive manner
Offer thoughtful solutions to problems
Offer thoughtful ideas on programming improvement
Seek additional responsibility
Care of the environment
Ensure cottages and classrooms are free of hazard
Ensure clean and sanitary environment
Report all environmental issues and concerns to facilities and Program Supervisor
Maintain a kid friendly environment (bulletin boards, art, etc.)
Overall quality of care for clients
Teach and reinforce hygiene skills
Ensure appropriate attire for the weather
Make sure clothes are clean, labeled, and stored appropriately
Guarantee all meals are offered on time
Maintenance of the environment (classrooms, cottages, client rooms, etc.)
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma is required. B.A. /B.S. in a related human service field preferred. Four years Mental Health experience is preferred.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
Competency is defined as the techniques, procedures, technology, skills or equipment needed to do one’s job. The following competencies are required of this position: age specific competency for children and adolescents, competency in the Administration of Medications, Therapeutic Crisis Intervention, Life Saving/Safety to include First Aid and CPR; Working with Mental Health Population through utilization of TCI and NMT, Blood Borne Pathogens and Infection Control.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, governmental regulations, or legal documentation. Ability to write reports and business correspondence to a prescribed format and style. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of children, top managers, clients and families, volunteers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, rations, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
