Job Description : Freese and Nichols is currently searching for an experienced Safety Specialist in San Antonio, TX. In this role, you will assist in the development of safety and health programs, manage and lead safety training programs, and conduct site visits to monitor compliance with federal and state safety and health regulations.

Support the strategy and plans for continuous improvement of the corporate safety and health program
Monitor the programs, procedures, policies, and training to address hazards, risks, client expectations, and regulatory requirements applicable to Freese and Nichols’ operations.
Conduct and oversee safety training for new and existing employees including system configuration, reporting, and compliance
Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace, conduct and coordinate site visit inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices
Routinely evaluate the company’s safety and health performance through audits, assessments, and benchmarking. Develop and implement improvement opportunities, based on the findings.
Work closely with Freese and Nichols’ Safety Committee, driving agenda topics, conducting meetings, and implementing actions determined necessary by the Committee
Flexibility to travel to all office locations and project sites on a regular basis, to include frequent overnight travel
Conduct incident investigations based on incident classification and liaise with engineers, management and health and safety regulatory authorities to identify causes of accidents and prevent their recurrence
Monitor compliance to policies and laws by inspecting employees and operations
Collect and maintain documentation necessary for ISNetworld, PEC Veriforce, Avetta and other pre-qualification accounts as needed

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Construction or related field (or equivalent experience)
5+ years of related work experience in the field of Health and Safety
Thorough knowledge of Federal and state health and safety regulations, as well as required reporting procedures
Current OSHA 30-hour certificate, or ability to obtain within 6 months
Strong knowledge of OSHA standards, including 29 CFR Part 1910 (General Industry) and 29 CFR Part 1926 (Construction).
Experience related to Confined Space Entry, Excavation/Trenching operations, Fall Protection, and Rope Access/High Angle Rescue.
Experience conducting basic level investigations to determine root cause
First Aid/CPR certification. Ability to obtain instructor certification.
Skilled in using Microsoft Office products, with particular emphasis on Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint (able to create executive level presentations)
