Job Description : TOWNSHIP OF LOWER MERION
JOB POSTING POSITION: School Crossing Guard – One (1) Position
Police Department, Traffic Safety Unit (5 hours/day, 5 days/week during school year)
RANGE & RATE: Schedule WA06 – Range 88
$21.685/hour SUMMARY: This position is responsible for providing the safe movement of children to and from school when crossing public roadways and intersections by observing gaps in the traffic and leading the children across the roadway or intersection. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the general supervision of the Police Department. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Provides the safe movement of children to and from school when crossing public roadways and intersections by observing gaps in the traffic and leading the children across the roadway or intersection. Provides information and assistance to the public. Reports any crime or suspicious activity observed. QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or the equivalent. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to instruct students in the safe crossing of intersections. Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Ability to successfully pass and maintain the following background checks: (1) Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check, (2) Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Certification, and (3) FBI Criminal Background Check through the PA Department of Human Services. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to drive 1 hour, sit for 1 hour and walk for 5 hours a day. Ability to bend, stoop and lift 20% of the day. Ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds for utilizing assigned equipment. Ability to use both the right and left hand for firm grasping, repetitive actions and fine manipulation. Ability to work in all types of weather and temperatures. Ability to perform job functions using safety precautions around moving vehicles, parked vehicles and traffic.
