Position : Seasonal Hire – Research Technician I – Texas Medical Center
Job Description : Position Summary: Under close direction of senior research staff, conducts activities to support research projects. The seasonal hire will participate in a hands-on laboratory project. This project will provide training in basic laboratory methods. These methods will be taught in the course of their usual performance during the progression of the lab’s work. The ideal candidate will have two years of undergraduate science study, ability to transcribe FDA source documents to case report forms, required to take blood products safety training (provided), manual bench lab tasks for in vitro assays, imaging data analysis using Excel, and image analysis software (ImageJ—will be taught), and statistical analysis (Prism GraphPad—will be taught).
There will be no exposure to radiation, human materials, pathogens or animals. There may be exposure to processed animal tissue samples. There may be contact with chemicals that are potentially harmful if mishandled.
POSITION KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Under close supervision, conducts research activities according to research protocol. Research activities may include some or all of the following: traditional laboratory experiments and activities/ data entry.
2. May maintain clean laboratory equipment and/or work area to ensure a safe and efficient work
environment.
3. Collects, evaluates, and interprets research data to provide needed information to principal
investigators and other researchers. Updates notebooks, records, and databases as needed.
4. Performs other duties as assigned.
Certification/Skills: NONE
Minimum Education: High School degree or equivalent preferred.
Minimum Experience: NONE
Physical Requirements: Exerts up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or above 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
