Position : Shipping Supervisor

Job Description : SUMMARY: Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in verifying and keeping records on incoming and outgoing shipments, and preparing items for shipment by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other duties may be assigned)

Studies shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders, and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules.
Oversee incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments. Any errors or complaints should be reviewed with the department supervisors and/or management.
Determine space requirements and position of shipment in trucks and lays out position of shipment.
Determine routing and legal load limits of trucks, according to established schedules and weight limits of states.
Inspect loading operations to ensure compliance with shipping specifications, and seals loaded truck doors.
Inspect material handling equipment, such as forklifts, for defects and notifies maintenance personnel or contacts outside facility for repair.
Oversee department cleanliness and ensure area is free of obstruction and maintains documentation.
Maintain reports on maintenance of assigned fleet vehicles.
Direct movement of shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage and work areas.
Compile records of unfilled orders.
Research overcharges and customer shipping issues.
Ensure shipping software and systems are maintained and current.
Post weight and shipping charges.
Prepare bills of lading.
Issue written and oral instructions.
Study and standardize procedures to improve efficiency of the department.
Maintain harmony among workers and resolve grievances.
Prepare composite reports from individual reports of subordinates and prepare reports as requested by management.
Conduct tariff and discount rate negotiations with freight carriers.
Report freight versus possible areas of savings to management yearly or as needed.
Maintain records on freight carriers to include base tariffs, discounts, contact names, phone numbers, and other pertinent information relative to carriers.
Assist receiving department with incoming shipments, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments.
Complies with procedures and policies established for shipping and receiving.
Maintain inventory of shipping materials and supplies.
Assist Order Filling Supervisor as needed to rotate inventory to comply with FIFO system.
Operate stand up or sit down forklift or use handtruck to move, convey, or hoist shipment from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area.
Assist with inventory cycle counts as needed.
Supervise, train, and assign/direct work to staff.
Conduct performance reviews for staff and address complaints or resolve problems.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $20.00 per hour
Schedule:

Day shift
Monday to Friday

Ability to commute/relocate:

San Antonio, TX 78207: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Preferred)

Experience:

Shipping & receiving: 1 year (Preferred)
Supervising: 1 year (Preferred)
