Job Description : Description:

Job Summary:
Responsible for receiving and verifying samples for accuracy; accessioning samples into the Lab LIS system for processing.
Job duties:
Receives, labels and processes patient specimens accurately & distributes to appropriate departments of laboratory. Verify samples and paperwork for accuracy. Dispatches and track specimens to the proper department in the lab or other designated testing facility as per established procedure.
Prints appropriate labels for specimen labeling; Enter and verify patient’s (and/or insurance) information in the lab information system (LIS); Order tests to be ran on patient samples in LIS; If necessary, contacts physician’s office to obtain order clarification/ verification prior to collecting specimens.
Prioritizes & organizes activities to achieve optimal and efficient patient care during daily operations. Maintains positive patient identification for all specimens collected, using defined protocols. Maintains patient confidentiality throughout all activities and communications.
Keeps working area stocked with essential supplies. Keeps work area decontaminated with proper cleaning solutions and disposes of waste & trash in appropriate containers. Keeps work area well organized & free from clutter. Handles add-on requests according to established procedures. Maintains a neat and orderly work area.
Maintains awareness of turn around expectations & organizes work duties to ensure expectations are met.
Adheres to Patient Safety Goals as defined by HIPAA, CLIA, COLA, and other regulatory/accreditation rules/agencies.
Other Duties: Performs other duties as assigned by Manager.
. Requirements:

Competency: * Must be able to accommodate departmental scheduling requirements as needed.
Must be comfortable working with human specimens (i.e. urine, oral fluids, blood, etc.).
Must be comfortable working in a fast paced and productive environment.
Must be a self-motivated and independent worker. Some over-time work if needed.
Experience and Education :
High School Graduation or GED equivalent. Clinical/medical background preferred, not required.
