Position : Street Maintenance Worker

Job Description : The Street Maintenance Division is the largest division within the Street Transportation Department and is responsible for maintaining the City’s roadways and other assets in the right-of-way. Staff takes care of issues such as asphalt/pothole repair, removal of debris in street, street resurfacing, street sweeping, right-of-way landscape maintenance, response to ADA issues in the right-of-way, grading/dustproofing alleys, response to storm related issues such as flooded street, clogged storm drains, and wash maintenance.
The Street Maintenance Worker II position operates various types of motorized equipment such as PB Patchers, various sized dump trucks, and other specialized equipment. Assignments may involve responsibilities where you act as a Crew Leader to complete tasks associated with asphalt, concrete, drainage and right of way maintenance, or homeless encampment clean up. Additionally, this position performs a variety of manual labor tasks associated with street maintenance.
The Street Maintenance Worker performs a variety of manual labor tasks associated with street and storm sewer maintenance; the operation of large and small vehicles; and power equipment. Assignment responsibilities may involve tasks associated with asphalt, concrete, drainage and right of way maintenance, or the homeless encampment clean up.
Successful candidates will have knowledge of asphalt repair procedures, equipment, and tools.

SALARY

$18.47 (minimum) – $23.55 (maximum) hourly / $38,417.60 – $48,984.00 annually

Pension Information

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

One year of experience in performing a wide variety of manual labor tasks and in operating small vehicles and power equipment associated with street and storm sewer maintenance; OR completion of City of Phoenix Street Maintenance Worker apprenticeship program.
Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted
Working irregular hours, second and/or third shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings may be required.
Moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds will be required.
Requires working outside in a variety of environmental extremes such as heat, cold, rain, air pollution, and dust for extended periods of time.
Requires working for prolonged periods standing in one location, and/or walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces.
For all positions, individuals will be required to obtain medical clearance from the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) issued by a City of Phoenix occupational medical provider.
Requires a class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) permit with a Tank Vehicle (N) endorsement in order to participate in the demonstration.
