Hours are Mondays through Thursdays 8:30am-6:30pm, some Fridays from 9:00am-12:00pm, and occasional evenings or weekends. Salary is $35,000-$38,000.
What We Do
Fortress is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization serving Fort Worth’s Historic Southside neighborhood. Our mission, building bridges from poverty to promise, takes a dual-generational approach to equip our students and their families with the resources they need to attain long-term stability, health and happiness. Through programs focused on academic, social-emotional and spiritual support, our strategy is to help children and parents utilize their existing strengths and develop new skills to overcome barriers born from systemic inequities, generational trauma, and life circumstances.
What You’ll Do
As our Student Programs Coordinator, you work in tandem with the Director of Programs & Impact to oversee Fortress’s preschool, after school, and summer programs which serve students from infancy through 5th grade. You will manage our team of teachers and will lead them through coaching, training, and team-building exercises. In planning and implementing our programs, you will also work directly with our students, collaborating with other program team members to identify and meet their needs.
You might do any of the following on an average day:

Hold a team meeting to coach teachers on instructional and classroom management strategies.
Schedule a reptile handler to do a special presentation during our “creepy crawly critters” learning unit.
Work one-on-one with a student who was removed from the classroom, helping him to self-regulate and then to practice the appropriate expressions of his big emotions.
Observe all classrooms, noticing and highlighting areas of success while also identifying areas that need additional support, training, or programmatic reorganization.
Make a daily staffing plan to accommodate the absences of teachers who are sick and on vacation.

What You’ll Bring

You feel called to serve children experiencing generational poverty and complex developmental trauma.
You have classroom experience working with a variety of ages, including early childhood and elementary.
You are a respected leader who uses a relational and transformational approach to management.
You believe wholeheartedly in using a trauma-informed approach when working with both children and adults, and you have the training necessary to operate from a trauma-informed lens.
You are passionate about education and have a desire to see all children reach their full potential.

What We Offer

A starting salary between $35,000-$38,000.
Paid time off, tuition-free child care, opportunities for professional development, and complimentary lunch (we eat what our kiddos eat — get pumped for chicken nugget day!).
Up to five weeks of built-in paid holidays aligning with Fort Worth ISD’s major breaks.
A work environment that encourages honest feedback (even when it’s tough), seeks progress toward racial and social equity, and upholds values aligned with the teachings of Jesus.
