Position Summary:
Provides utilization management review of worker’s compensation claims. Accesses medical documentation and information provided by medical providers to determine the appropriateness of treatment, setting and length of treatment required.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Communicates with medical providers and ancillary service providers to negotiate or approve treatment.
Engages physician review agents as appropriate.
Communicates and documents recommendations of treatment to all parties including claims professionals, medical providers, ancillary service providers, employers and employees.
Follows national and state guidelines for approval of treatment , medications, etc.
30 hours per week

Additional Considerations:
performing intake of phone calls from injured employees
completing telephonic health assessments, and rendering appropriate health care advice
entering injured worker data into a medical triage database
maintaining accurate records for all incoming calls, including interventions and follow-up instructions
actively participating in internal triage quality assessments, workflow enhancements, and procedure updates
maintaining telephonic nurse triage assessment and advice standards in accordance with established protocols, policies, and procedures
assisting with special healthcare-related risk management projects, as needed Additional Work Traits:
Registered Nurse (RN) designation (licensed by the Arizona State Board of Nursing)
unrestricted nursing license
3+ years related experience (preferred, e.g., telephone triage, urgent care, emergency department, triage, occupational health experience, orthopedics) with recent telephone or telehealth experience
great interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
intermediate experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
bilingual (English/Spanish) capabilities (highly preferred)

Required:
Associate’s degree from an accredited school of nursing and a minimum of 3 years acute clinical experience or similar position required.
Hold an active RN license within the state of practice.
Willing to be licensed in states requiring same for Utilization Review.

Desired:
Bachelor’s degree.
Experience in Worker’s Compensation or Utilization Review.

Demonstrates adequate knowledge of managed care with emphasis on use of criteria, guidelines and national standards of practice
Demonstrates good written and oral communications, organizational and leadership skills
Computer literate
Demonstrates good time management skills
Self-starter
