Job Description : Philabundance was founded in 1984 with the simple belief that no one should go hungry while healthy food goes to waste. Our mission is to drive hunger from our communities today as we work to end hunger for good. In addition to food distribution, we strive to reduce food waste, increase access to nutritious meals, and tackle the root causes of hunger through programs such as the Philabundance Community Kitchen.
Philabundance provides food to more than 350 partners – such as shelters, emergency kitchens, senior centers – and at locations where people access other services, including hospitals, libraries, and schools. We do this in five counties in Pennsylvania: Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia, and four counties in New Jersey: Burlington, Camden, Gloucester and Salem.

Position Summary:
A Philabundance driver carries out the primary operation of the organization – efficiently picking up and delivering donated surplus, prepared and perishable foods in the Philadelphia region. Drivers work an 8-hour shift between the hours of 5am and 5pm, M-F. Overtime, evening, weekend and/or holiday hours may be required as necessary.

Ability to work independently within a defined operating system
Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously
Strong sense of initiative, creative problem solving, flexibility, discretion and a sense of humor
Be able to work cooperatively in a diverse work environment
Specific Responsibilities:
Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the van
Drive various sizes refrigerated sprinter van
Follow pre-set schedule of pick-up and deliveries
Load and unload vans; follow correct inventory procedures
Handle food in a safe manner
Provide good customer service – communicate with food donors in a courteous manner and respect agency personnel and clientele
Travel in all neighborhoods in the inner city and suburbs
Complete related paperwork accurately and thoroughly
Follow all applicable laws and standards related to good, safe driving
Adhere to Philabundance policies and procedures
Warehousing duties as assigned
Operate forklift and pallet jack
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Valid driver’s license required
Two years minimum experience driving
Clean driving record
Knowledge of the Greater Philadelphia region
Strong map-reading skills
Essential Job Functions:
Bend, stoop, crouch, climb, stand, sit, walk and turn/pivot throughout an 8 hour shift, 5 days a week
Lift /lower, push, pull and carry at least 50 pounds at a time throughout an 8-hour shift
Lift packages to heights above shoulder and lower to foot level
Reach, grasp, and maintain control of items and materials used to perform activities associated with delivering and picking up packages
See, hear and speak with sufficient capability to perform assigned tasks and maintain proper job safety conditions and communication with the public
Maintain an acceptable work pace
Work in an environment that will contain: variable temperatures and humidity, outside weather conditions, exposure to noise, dust/dirt, confined work areas
Demonstrate cognitive ability to: follow directions and routines, work independently with appropriate judgment, exhibit spatial awareness, read words and numbers, concentrate, memorize, recall, identify logical connections and determine sequence of response, process up to 2-3 steps ahead
