Job Description : Job Summary
The V.P. of Operations is responsible for daily manufacturing operations (across multiple facilities) as well as longer range planning to advance productivity and capacity to drive efficiency gains and support business growth. Key reports include Plant Managers (and staff) at each facility, a centralized Production Control group, a centralized Materials Management group, Continuous Improvement Engineer (CI), and Environmental Health and Safety. The top accountabilities include meeting planned production levels (assuring customer delivery dates are met) at or below planned cost, ensuring inventory is accurately measured and manages across plants, assuring all quality standards are met, tracks competencies of subordinates and coaches for on-going development (individual growth and bench strength), while assuring safety programs (and metrics) are well managed.

Major Responsibilities
Develop solid working rapports with key supporting functions, i.e., Insides Sales, Product Design, Engineering, Quality, and Finance.
Develop annual operating plans to support the businesses sales plan and top strategic initiatives. Report monthly on successes as well as shortfalls and put into action appropriate recovery plans. Support monthly MOPM (Manufacturing Operations Performance Metrics) reviews, be crisp with data and provide recovery plans as needed and share positives with peers.
Balance manufacturing volume through effective Master Scheduling optimizing labor and cost across the three plants. Communicate routinely to Inside Sales and Outside Sales on shifts in production (by key account), intent: no customer surprises, closed loop communication.
Ensure inventory positions of raw materials and buyouts are accurately measured and managed across the plants in co-ordination with plant based material managers.
Directing, planning, and coordinating activities to optimize performance of safety, productivity, product quality, facility utilization, people utilization, inventory management and operating expenses.
Embrace and champion Lean manufacturing initiatives, drive initiatives through the CI leader, be visibly active across the facilities. Drive employee engagement, consistent behavior and practices across all manufacturing sites (best practices) for business uniformity.
Develop and support an annual capital investment budget focused at productivity, capacity gains, and strategic initiatives (innovation, alternate products, alternate channels).
Lead / be the voice of manufacturing to planned business system changes (requirements) to assure manufacturing needs are met. Example: shop floor working drawings, cut-sheets, level of detail required versus current state – outcome should yield productivity gains, reduction in scrap and rework, and reduce the learning curve and training when new employees are added
Establish accountability goals for direct reports (supporting overall business objectives and as the structure for individual bonuses) and conduct performance reviews accordingly, informal and formal.
Operate hand in hand with the Quality organization, own product quality in-plant through installation. Support corrective action plans as developed, and drive ownership into the facilities
Travel (30%) – periodic visits to all plants and group meetings as needed.

Required Experience
Required Skills, Experience, Education & Certifications
Demonstrated success in leading teams, facilitation skills, and possesses excellent human relations skills. Proven management skills with 5 years minimum in a managerial capacity
10+ years of professional experience in a manufacturing environment, moderate complexity, in a mass customization environment
Strong project management, statistical aptitude, strong quantitative and analytical skills
Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering field or Operations Management, Masters of Business Administration desired
Lean / Continuous Improvement training (Six Sigma, Toyota Production Principles, Demand Flow Technology, others)
Highly effective, persuasive negotiator and communicator
Deep technical expertise coupled with problem solving and analytical skills
