*JOB SUMMARY: *MCASD invites all audiences to experience our world, our region, and ourselves through the prism of contemporary art. As the first point of contact for visitors and guests, the role of the Visitor Engagement department is to ensure that from the moment the public enters the space they are welcomed in a warm, authentic, clear manner, and invited to be a part of our community. This role is vital to the day-to-day operations of MCASD and ensures that visitors and guests are greeted in an enthusiastic and professional manner. Each Visitor Engagement Ambassador (VEA) is responsible for welcoming visitors, selling tickets, and front desk merchandise, encouraging membership sales, and having a strong commitment to providing accessible communication that makes MCASD meaningful and relevant. Support the mission and vision of the museum throughout the performance of job duties.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Meet, greet, inform, and orientate visitors, selling and checking tickets, directing vendors and providing assistance with access needs. Notify appropriate personnel of guests’ arrival.
Develop an exceptional knowledge about MCASD to interact with visitors. Answer questions and relay information about a wide range of subjects related to MCASD venue, exhibitions, and events.
Work closely and collaboratively with MCASD Security personnel and observe MCASD policies and procedures and report any feedback, pre-empting visitor issues by addressing them quickly. Maintain an active role in monitoring and reporting of environmental concerns.
Utilizing Radical Hospitality best practices as a guide, support the MCASD’s diversity and inclusion best practices to ensure that all visitors feel respected, warmly welcomed, and comfortable in the Museum. Embody all aspects of “radical hospitality,” focusing on breaking down the barriers that prevent guests from experiencing the fullness of the Museum.
Work creatively with Curatorial and Education departments to support the development of the visitor experience.
Work collaboratively with the Membership and Retail Operations teams to actively encourage visitors to join MCASD and sell merchandise.
Work collaboratively with Marketing and Communications to increase visitor-ship and gather audience demographics.
Capture accurate information for CY and FY attendance reporting, weekly attendance reporting, demographic and zip code tracking, and capture visitor comments.
Maintain an 8-line phone system and transfers calls to appropriate staff, manage the information and front desk emails by responding to visit questions and forwarding to the appropriate staff.
Maintain professional working relationships with all MCASD employees, the Board of Trustees, the artistic community, members, and membership volunteer organizations.
Perform opening and closing procedures of front desk POS system.
Receive goods and mail upon delivery and ensure proper distribution.
Work at either the downtown or La Jolla location as needed.
Work some evenings, holidays, weekends, and additional shifts as needed.
Follow safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe work environment.
Others duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: Excellent communication and problem-solving skills. Outstanding professional decorum and the ability to interact confidently and welcoming with all visitors, guests, employees, trustees, students, etc. Ability to work in an open, public-facing workspace while multi-tasking and with ongoing distractions, yet while maintaining a calm, professional demeanor. Ability to interact with tact and diplomacy in any type of interaction. Strong organizational skills with an emphasis in attention to detail and follow-up. Ability to work independently or in a group environment. Good technical skills in MS Office and a proficiency in cash/credit handling. Two years recent, relevant experience or any equivalent education and experience. Bilingual skills a plus. Knowledge of or interest in contemporary art a plus.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to see, listen, and talk for extended periods. Ability to perform repetitive motions, making substantial movements of the wrists, hands, or fingers. Ability to use a keyboard for extended periods. Ability to remain in a sedentary position for extended periods.
