Job Description : Job Summary

Under Direction, is responsible for coordination and evaluation of volunteer services in support of departmental programs throughout the City of San Antonio including volunteer recruitment, training and scheduling. Working conditions are primarily in an office environment.

Essential Job Functions

Develops volunteer position job descriptions, criteria, requirements, and supervisory structure.
Establishes, initiates, markets, and coordinates volunteer/recruitment procedures.
Develops and manages volunteer application, screening, and interviewing processes.
Develops and coordinates volunteer orientation and training program and volunteer manual.
Coordinates and schedules volunteer activities with appropriate supervisors.
Establishes and maintains record keeping system of volunteer activities and participation.
Develops, initiates, and coordinates volunteer enrichment activities and recognition activities.
Writes and edits volunteer newsletter, media announcements, and other articles, and publications.
Collaborates with City’s Volunteer Program Coordinator and assists in the planning, organizing, and implementation of volunteer recognition events and activities.
Conducts site visits, assesses program results, and identifies future needs.
Promotes program with local agencies, universities, and corporate entities as a means of fostering a relationship with the larger San Antonio community.
Coordinates, prepares, and presents reports and recommendations; reviews ordinances and contracts as needed, composes correspondence, and represents the division at conferences and meetings.
May require transport of volunteers to and from assigned areas.
Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
Two (2) years of experience in working with volunteer or community service programs, professional fund raising, public relations, or related field.
This position requires a valid Class “C” Texas Driver’s License OR a valid driver’s license from another state with the ability to obtain a valid Texas Driver’s License within thirty (30) days after becoming a resident of the State of Texas. Use of your own personal vehicle may at times be required and proof of Liability Insurance will be required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience with older adult volunteers, event planning, outreach, and coordination.

Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks. If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of volunteer programs, including recruitment, training and management.
Skill in utilizing a personal computer and associated software programs.
Ability to operate a computer keyboard and other basic office equipment.
Ability to plan and manage programs, events, outings, etc.
Ability to work independently and concurrently perform multiple compliance projects.
Ability to make oral and written presentations.
Ability to prepare correspondence and reports.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, City management and staff, and, the public.
Ability to supervise, train, and, evaluate assigned staff.
Ability to work with difficult people.
Ability to perform all the physical, intellectual, and analytical requirements of the position including decision making.
