Position : WIC Nutrition Aide

Job Description : Position Summary: The Nutrition Aide provides support to Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program participants, including assisting with the eligibility determination of new and existing WIC participants.

Essential Functions of the Job:

Client Services: 95%

Collects, screen and document income, address and category information for WIC certification.
Input data into WIC MIS.
Prepare, print and distribute food instruments adhering to WIC program policies for separation of duties.
Provide appointments and necessary forms to current and potential WIC participants.
Educate participants on non-nutrition issues such as program orientation, including the use of food instruments.
Document nutrition education attendance
Take participants’ height and weight and assists participants with completing the forms
Prepare and ensure that participants have all necessary materials for nutrition classes and certifications.
Call participants to remind them of their appointment or re-schedule missed appointment, mailing food instruments when appropriate.
Demonstrates openness to organizational changes.
Actively seeks out ways to improve processes.

Other WIC Support Services: 5%

Assist with filing and data storage.
Maintain and submit orders for adequate inventory of office supplies.
Participate in program linkages, referral and outreach activities.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safely, environmental and infection control standards.
Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops.
Attend meetings as required and participates on committees as directed.
Perform related duties as assigned or requested.

Job Requirements:

Education Required (Minimum level of education): High School Diploma

Certifications/Licenses Required: Valid California Driver’s License. WIC Nutrition Assistant Certificate within nine (9) months of being hired.

Experience Required (Minimum level of experience): 1 year of administrative/clerical experience. Completion of a nutrition course preferred. Ability to work well with diverse ethnical and cultural backgrounds.

Verbal and Written Skills Required to perform the Job: Good verbal and written communication.

Technical Knowledge and Skills Required to Perform the Job: Computer proficiency. Ability to work in a fast paced work environment.

Equipment Used: Computers, telephones, copy and fax machines.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods of sitting, standing and walking. Noisy clinic environment with young children and infants. May require the ability to move up to 20 lbs. with proper equipment. Schedule will require some Saturdays and evenings. May need to travel and work at other SY Health WIC sites.
