Job Description : Looking for experienced Zookeepers for animal outreach programs.
Once in a Wild is seeking motivated, trustworthy, and dynamic individuals to assist in animal husbandry and daily tasks as assigned by the animal care staff. This position would be part time, and opportunities for work shifts occur both in the mornings and evenings. Once volunteers are trained in the animal husbandry daily routine, they would typically be expected to work independently. Opportunities to assist with other aspects of the job, including events or public speaking would also possibly arise. This is a position for someone interested in gaining experience working hands-on with a wide variety of animals, while ensuring their utmost safety and care. Volunteers would directly follow instruction and guidance from the animal care staff members, so working well with others is an absolute must! Most of all, we are seeking individuals who have a passion to advocate for what we do, and a desire to help further our mission to inspire others to make a difference through live animal experiences.
Daily tasks may include, but are not limited to:
– Cleaning and maintaining animal enclosures.- Prepping and feeding daily diets.- Holding animals and assisting in restraint for medical or maintenance behaviors.- Administering medications.- Participating in maintaining trained behaviors.- Safely inspecting individual animals and their surroundings.- Light maintenance of equipment and assistance in the building of animal enclosures.- Notating any mechanical, structural, security, or animal collection issues.- Working independently and together with other animal care staff.- Assisting with events and promotions.- Answering guests’ questions and speaking to clientele about our organization and our animals.
QUALIFICATIONS:
– Must love animals!- Great communication skills- Must have interest in working with, and handling different species, including mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates.- Must be at least 18 years old.- Must have your own reliable transportation, or reliable way to arrive to work.- Some animal experience required, preferably with a variety of different species.- Must be able to participate in the physical aspects of the job, and be able to lift up to 50lb unassisted when necessary.- Must be able to work indoors or outdoors in varied weather conditions.- Must maintain a positive work environment while working with other team members, or while working independently.- Public speaking skills a plus

Pay: $13.00 – $22.00 per hour
