Job Description : JOB PURPOSE
Wayne State University is a National Collegiate Athletics Associate Division II member institution. The Associate Director provides administrative oversight and supervision of the day-to-day marketing/promotion and communications activities within the athletic department including the coordination of marketing plans, promotional plans and special event management for department sanctioned athletic events. Also manages budget and provides supervisory oversight over a Marketing Assistant, Cheer and Dance Coach, graduate school assistant, and student assistants in coordination of all athletic marketing functions and external activities associated with the department’s mission and objectives. Reports to Director, Athletics.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Develops and implements marketing strategies to generate awareness of and interest in Wayne State University Athletics, including increasing event attendance of fans and students.
Responsible for managing Marketing Assistant who handles Sponsorship sales, coordination, fullfillment for Wayne State University Athletics. Current Sponsorship income is over $200K annually. Manages operating budget.
Coordinates in-game promotions at Wayne State Univeristy athletic events to engage fans and students with marketing Interns, Assistants, and Student Assistants.
Manages marketing efforts for Wayne State University Athletics on all social media platforms including Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc.
Develops and implements strategies to increase student attendance and participation at athletic events with creative and innovative approaches. Works to increase awareness of and interest in athletic events and activities by the campus community including faculty/staff.
Supervises Spirit Squad (Cheer, Dance, Mascot) and their corresponding coaches
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications or a related field from an accredited college or university. Master’s degree is preferred. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience:
Requires 3 or more years practical experience in marketing/communications, promotions, special event coordination and developing written marketing and promotions plans, preferably for college athletics or professional teams.
Must have Knowledge of and experience with InDesign, Photoshop, Microsoft Office and PowerPoint, or similar software.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to operate a personal computer and associated software (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
Excellent attention to detail and ability to communicate effectively and appropriately.
Ability to sell through speech, writing and direct selling skills.
Ability to interact with diverse populations, the University community and the public effectively and professionally.
Ability to balance competing needs and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Ability to work extended nights and weekends.
