We are seeking a temporary Case Aide (Social Service Assistant) to join our Astoria Office of Child Welfare team. This is a temporary position scheduled to end 6 months after the employment start date.

What you will be doing:
As a Case Aide (Social Service Assistant) in the Astoria Office of Child Welfare, you will play a critical role in assisting Caseworkers in achieving positive outcomes for children and their families. You will support Caseworkers by completing paperwork, completing referrals, transporting children, and completing administrative tasks. As a Case Aide, you will also work with families and children in the field. Field work will consist of transporting children, supervising visits, and taking case notes.
You will have the opportunity to be involved with several different cases, interact with a wide range of people, and enjoy a position where no two days look alike. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to get to know children and see the progression of each case from beginning to end. Lastly, you will be in a position where you can learn and immense amount about the Child Welfare Program and the Oregon Department of Human Services as a whole.
Working conditions:
Travel with the purpose of transporting children is required. Occasionally, travel may be hours away.
Employee’s work will be conducted in a hybrid format that includes mostly office work, some field work, and some work that can be conducted remotely.
Employee will work a professional work week where the hours of work fluctuate on a daily and weekly basis. Occasional required overtime may be required to meet service needs.
You may interact with a wide range of people including some who have experienced trauma, exhibit challenges in controlling their anger, or other unexpected emotions impacted by drug use, cognitive impairments, or other factors.
What you need to qualify:
One year of experience assisting professionals in one or more specialized social programs such as family services, children services, senior services, mental or developmental disability services, substance abuse programs, juvenile corrections programs or occupational skills programs, OR;
Possession of a current certification in child development, early childhood education, addiction counseling preparation or juvenile corrections, OR;
45 quarter hours, or 30 semester hours of college course work in sociology, psychology, early childhood education, criminal justice, human services, juvenile corrections, or occupational skills training , OR;
An associate degree in a field not closely related to social work/human services and six months of human services-related experience (e.g. work providing assistance to individuals and groups with issues such as economically disadvantaged, employment, abuse and neglect, substance abuse, aging, mental or physical disabilities, juvenile prevention, health, cultural competencies, and/or inadequate housing).
The State of Oregon requires all executive branch employees to complete their COVID-19 vaccination series or have an approved exception to the requirement due to a medical condition or sincerely held religious belief. Essential Attributes:
