Job Description : The Rapid is a public transit organization in the Grand Rapids metro area and beyond that provides fixed routes, demand response services, and car and vanpooling programs. Come join our communications team as a Community Relations Specialist!Position Summary: Organize and execute outreach efforts to external stakeholder groupswith guidance from the Director of External Relations and GovernmentAffairs. Focus on building relationships with service area employers,neighborhood associations, business associations, community groups,agencies, and other critical partners throughout The Rapid’s service areaand beyond. Outreach efforts will be focused on education andawareness of The Rapid’s services, as well as identifying unmet mobilityneeds in our community. Assist with the development of strategic plansto expand The Rapid’s services, identification of new and innovativerevenue streams, and enhancement of community partnerships.Essential Functions: Work directly with employers and community partners to promote services, develop partnerships, and identify opportunities for service expansion.Assist with external content development (education and outreach materials, media materials, digital content, etc.).Maintenance, management, tracking, and expansion of strategic partnerships in the service area and region with a focus on service expansion/diversification and development of innovative funding streams.Strategic support of new service expansion in cooperation with Operations and Planning via partnerships (with other units of government, local employers, agencies, and institutional partners).Identification of unmet transit needs in the community and service area and assistance with development of strategies to address those needs.Represent The Rapid in appropriate community capacities (local volunteer boards, municipal committees, etc.)Assist with overall agency public outreach to include written and oral communications, presentations and interaction with various stakeholders.External collateral and outreach material coordination. Write reports on grant-funded activities as needed.Special projects as assigned by the executive team or Director, other duties as assigned.Qualifications: Excellent written and oral communication skills, community outreach experience, public speaking and presentation skills. Interpersonal relationship skills (active listening, situational awareness, workplace and professional empathy). Ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.Accountability – Takes personal responsibility for the quality and timeliness of the work performed. Achieves results with little oversight.Communications – Excellent communication skills and presentation skills to communicate effectively with others both orally and in writing.Customer Service – Ability to take care of the customers’ needs while following company procedures.Ethics & Integrity – Earns others’ trust and respect through consistent honesty and professionalism in all interactions.Reliability – Prompt and dependable. At work as scheduled. Plans ahead and communicates scheduling concerns to leadership.Accuracy – Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.Organized – Possessing the trait of being organized or following a systematic method of performing a task.Detail Oriented – Ability to pay attention to the minute details of a project or task.Education: Bachelor’s Degree: public/non-profit administration, public policy, publicrelations, communications, or a closely related field; or Bachelor’s Degreeplus minimum of 3 years experience or part-time equivalent experienceperforming in one of the following disciplines: Public outreach, Issueadvocacy, Community/political organizing, Community development,Consensus development, Or closely related areas of expertise.Computer Skills: computer skills to include Microsoft Office Suite and various proprietary software as required.
