Job Description : TikTok’s mission is to capture and present the world’s creativity, knowledge, and everyday life moments.
Our policies and tools are developed to promote a positive and safe environment for our community.
As a global community that thrives on creativity and expression, it’s important that users feel safe and comfortable in this community. TikTok’s US Safety team is dedicated to making TikTok safe for our users, viewers and content creators globally.
Product Policy Analysts for Text based Feature are deeply in tune with how the platform works, from its FYF algorithm, to emerging hashtag, Feature and audio trends, to effects, and beyond. This role will require creative solutions, especially with moderation, quality, and vendor operations; as well as a deep understanding of the Feature and ways it can be abused. Your interest and professional expertise are grounded in experience in the industry, extra-curricular and academic interests related to internet policy, user behavior, or platform management. Finally, you are naturally inquisitive, take initiative to formulate hypothesis and perform deep analysis into potential risk areas, and are able to navigate ambiguity and non-linear workflows.
This position will be full-time and will be based in our Los Angeles, CA location.
Key Responsibilities
Organize and articulate ambiguous and complex ideas or issues into clear documentation and analysis
Develop, launch, and train policies that are customized for our product offerings — managing our US standards across TikTok’s brand and safety moderation teams
Lead the localization of global policy — ensure the implementation of our policy playbooks are adjusted based on user impact, robust data, and country needs
Analyze existing policies and procedures to identify gaps, inconsistencies, or conflicts
Support the execution of the strategic vision for content policy verticals.
Stay up to date with recent trends in the US and new tactics, techniques, and patterns from abusive parties
Execute research and policy development projects. Responsibilities would include research, work planning, data collection & analysis
Develop overarching project plans as well as specific plans in areas like policy development and stakeholder engagement in collaboration with workstream leads and monitor execution e.g. by building and maintaining trackers
Identify opportunities in our current implementation process, working with the Operations and Moderations teams in particular; and suggest strategic process improvements (e.g. Improved standardization of documentation, tooling, cross-functional communication)
Proactively identify and evaluate emerging content policy risks to our platform and drive solutions to help mitigate them
Work cross-functionally with global policy and operations to set goals and milestones related to Feature
Assist team lead in providing comprehensive and ongoing training designed to inform the moderators about policy, procedures changes, recent trends, and updates
Minimum BA/BS degree
3+ years of work experience in Trust & Safety, Feature policy, or brand safety roles or another relevant field
Experience developing a policy from start to finish (from idea to implementation)
Demonstrated systematic thought process regarding policy and thorough operational experience
Ability to thrive in ambiguous environments, identify trade-offs, and make decisions in high-pressure situations
Deep knowledge in how policy develops in new media, technology, entertainment, or related fields
Strong attention to detail — highly self-driven and results oriented
Experience analyzing and creating policy around possibly sensitive material
Preferred qualifications:
Experience working with international partners at different time zones.
Proven ability to develop sound research methodologies and collect, synthesize, analyze, and interpret data
Experience managing complex research projects
Experience working in a start-up, or forming new teams in established companies
Experience working on Trust & Safety issues with policy, product, and engineering teams
